About You
I enjoyed it - it was pretty well structured though there were quite a lot of talks. There was a good range of activities as well - the workshops (like the trading game) were quite fun. The work shadowing was also a highlight and was really useful. There was also a lot of advice regarding the assessment centre including a presentation exercise to help us prepare.
We were treated pretty well - all the employees were really nice and willing to answer any of our questions.
There was a lot of support regarding the assessment centre at the end of the week - we were given talks and Q&A sessions as well as a presentation exercise to help us prepare. For guidance, there were presentations and Q&As on all the divisions and work shadowing in our chosen division.
It was a very informative week in providing information on UBS, and also on all the divisions and their functions within the bank. I wouldn't say there was much that related with my degree but it really helped me develop my technical knowledge regarding investment banking and I guess that the group workshops helped building teamwork, etc.
The Company
It was well structured - they packed a lot into the week. Initially I felt that there were a lot (maybe too many...?) talks but as the week progressed there was a better mix of workshops and talks. It was all pretty well organised - we were always busy doing something.
The atmosphere was always quite relaxed. Everyone was friendly, employees and interns included. We were given a lot of time to get to know each other which helped create a good atmosphere.
They do want you to do well so they gave a lot of advice and help regarding the assessment centre at the end of the week including talks and a group presentation exercise. I guess then that the whole week is really just them investing in you? The assessment centre is a pretty important part of the week.
It was really useful. The work shadowing was a great opportunity to gain a better understanding of your chosen division. The talks were also very informative and detailed so I felt that I had a good idea of what it would be like to have a full time role at UBS.
If you ask any UBS employee why they like it there, they will without a doubt always mention the culture - there's apparently quite a flat structure at UBS which everyone loves to talk about. Pretty much everyone I met there loves working at UBS. You'll definitely have a very good understanding of the culture there by the end of the week.
It was useful. Before the spring week, I definitely did not know much about investment banking so it was very eye-opening. Talking to all the employees there gave me a much better idea of what I'm interested in. I understand the industry more now so it is definitely a career path I am considering.
Everything Else
There were a ridiculously high number of opportunities... We had talks followed by question and answer sessions with every division as well as an afternoon of work shadowing a graduate and some speed-dating-esque networking thing. There were a ton of opportunities to talk with employees from all kinds of roles from all divisions at different levels.
The opportunities were pretty good and varied- there was a nice range from work shadowing to panel sessions where we were free to ask as many questions as we liked. Most of the opportunities were related to networking but there was a social event for the interns held in a local bar with free food and drinks.
There was a panel of employees representing the different networks available at the firm. There are diversity, women and LGBT networks you can join as well as clubs which seem more hobby oriented - like scuba diving? The networks hold regular events which employees can get involved in.
If you are considering a career in investment banking then sure. Even if you don't know much, they'll provide you with a lot of help and you'll have plenty of opportunities to ask whatever questions you may have. It was a pretty fun experience (very jam packed though so the days were sometimes quite long) overall.
