About You
I thought the Insights week was a great experience and opportunity to learn more about different divisions in the bank. I felt the Insights week was very well organised and well managed. Everyone was very friendly, both employees and interns, and everyone was willing and keen to help with any questions or worries.
I felt very valued during my time at UBS as interns were informed about what UBS is looking for in terms if their graduate program and how they would like the interns who make it to the graduate program to be a great asset to the bank, both productively and culturally. Due to the nature of the insights week, only being a week, I feel UBS did an excellent job in making everyone feel welcomed and not out of place.
I would say that during the UBS Insights week, a lot of guidance and support was given to each intern. For instance, there was always an opportunity given to ask questions in order to support us with any confusion or worries we had. Secondly, the assessment centre preparation session also was one of many sessions during the week which I feel helped with guidance on how to tackle different situations which I feel mant interns may have been nervous or unsure about.
I would say that the skills developed and the information I received during the Insights week has greatly assisted me in my degrees studies and beyond in terms of finding work in the future. This is as many of the presentation and workshop sessions included relevant knowledge, not just specific to UBS, but to the economy as a whole which I feel will greatly benefit me as I am doing an economics degree. Also ir has equipped me with knowledge about different careers in the financial sector that I may want to pursue in the future.
The Company
I would definitely say that the UBS Insights week was very well structured. Time was managed really well through-out the whole week with not one session running over by too much. Also I felt that all sessions were very relevant to the audience- as undergraduates looking for an internship at UBS. I felt that the right amount of breaks were given and I never felt that a session was too short or too long.
I would say that the general atmosphere during my Insights week was a very welcoming atmosphere. All employees were so kind and were willing to make time , despite their very busy and hectic schedules, to talk to and answer all the questions that interns had. I specifically found the HR team very friendly and helped to make me feel welcomed, comfortable and at ease straight away.
In terms of personal training and development, I would say that UBS definitely invested in all the interns. For instance, the presentation and assessment centre skills session helped each intern (in particular the critique given after our presents) to learn how to improve their presentation skills and how to approach different situations in an assessment centre.
I would say that the Insights week definitely helped me in understanding what it would be like to have a full time role at UBS. I was able to learn about many different divisions across the bank and the general culture of UBS. This helped me to understand and picture how working at UBS full-time will be. I must say that I have particularly enjoyed learning about the UBS culture as the general public would be quite surprised at how much UBS enforce integrity and collaboration due to the media portraying employees (in particular traders) at global influential banks as selfish and ruthless. I will definitely be informing anyone who is planning to have a career in banking that this is not the case at UBS!
As stated in my previous commentary, the insights week has helped me understand a lot more about UBS and the culture at UBS. Previous to the Insights week, I was aware that UBS was very involved in the community and charity as a whole both locally ( for instance the bridge academy) and globally (helping fund entrepreneurs with their businesses in less developed countries). I think the fact that UBS has gone above and beyond its corporate responsibilities stands testament to the culture and the nature of employees at UBS.
I would say that the content of the day was very useful in helping me decide on my future career path. I would say that the Insights week has definitely made me more open in considering what job in the financial sector I look to go down. This is due to learning more about different sectors within a bank during the sessions in the week.
Everything Else
I did not apply for my expenses to be reimbursed as I live in London so my exolpenses did not come up to that much. Also, I did not expect to be paid as it was more of an informative week as opposed to working.
I would say that there was definitely opportunities for networkinh and meeting other employess of UBS. The only thing I would say could have been improved is perhaps a longer time period to network in a social setting so all interns have a chance to speak and ask more questions as opposed to in the GFC room where the more confident interns tended to dominate the conversation.
I really enjoyed all the social event and networking events- in particular the intern networking event on Monday as it allowed me to learn more about the other interns. I think this was very effective as I think initially many interns saw one another as "competition" but the social allowed many interns to put there guard down and be the best they can be as opposed to concentrating on "competition".
I learnt a bit about the activities employees get into outside of work. For instance, an employee informed me about a summer barbecue that takes place and 2 day volunteering events employees can also take part in. I also learnt about activities UBS is hoping to implement in 5 broadgate, for instance movie nights.
Without a doubt.
