About You
The insight was overall an absolutely eye-opening and enriching experience. Delving straight into the crux of UBS with regards to its values and structure from the very first day, I have definitely gained a deep insight and feel of UBS' culture and what it really stands for. Furthermore, I thoroughly appreciated the rich, valuable technical information and knowledge UBS taught us, which are definitely beyond the classroom and gave me a clearer understanding of the financial world in general. I also really enjoyed the networking and dialogue (Q&A) sessions with the various professionals who generously fed us with information about their various jobs.
Even before the Insights Week, I felt valued through the emails UBS sent regarding transportation fees, meal allergies, etc. UBS was also kind enough to cater to our different requests and changing needs (eg. change of divisions for summer internship) which also reflects their flexibility.
The person I workshadowed offered great guidance and support, clearly and thoroughly elucidating what his job entailed and willingly answered all my queries although he was supposed to be in tackling an important task.
The interpersonal skills that I have honed through interactions with fellow insight participants who hail from diverse backgrounds (in terms of school and nationality) as well as professionals will indubitably boost my confidence in working with different people in the future - be it in school or at work. Being an Accounting and Management student, the hard knowledge and technicalities that I have learnt will definitely boost my understanding of and rate of learning for any finance-related modules in the future. More importantly, having a deeper understanding and background in IB will place me in a better position in future IB-related internship/job applications.
The Company
The insight was very well-structured with talks and breaks evenly spread out. The number of talks organised per day were also just right, neither overwhelming or underwhelming.
The general atmosphere was a nice balance of corporate and camaraderie where everyone, despite dressing and acting professionally, was still open and supportive of one another in the learning process and activities.
Everything Else
Unfortunately, due to time constraints and the packed schedule, there were limited opportunities to network with employees after their respective talks.
The social event on the first day had a really vibrant atmosphere as everyone interacted actively over food and drinks (which were great!). However, it was unfortunate that there was only 1 social event organized. The breaks in between talks/activities were also a little too short for longer and more meaningful conversations.
Yes, UBS shared the community (volunteering) activities they have been actively involved in in the "Beyond the Panel" talk. And I was amazed by the sheer dedication and efforts UBS has invested into the community which have not only won them multiple notable awards but also reflects the people-oriented culture that UBS prides itself in.
Absolutely. This insight is undoubtedly a fantastic platform for anyone who is interested in the financial industry to gain a deeper and real look into the environment of an Investment Bank as well as the working life of an Investment Banker (or someone who works in a bank in general). It is also not only a great place to forge valuable networks but also an excellent, stimulating training ground to acquire enriching IB/banking-related knowledge.
