About You
Overall I really enjoyed this insight, it gave me a much clearer view on how the financial industry functions, in particular how J.P Morgan functions. Additionally it helped me develop as a person, as I was constantly challenged to perform at my best level and further increase my knowledge.
I felt very valued during this week, as it really felt as though the team and the people I met across J.P Morgan wanted to ensure we make the best of the week and learn as much as we possibly can.
There was a high level of support available to us throughout the experience, the team that organised this week was constantly available for guidance, and the people we met throughout J.P Morgan were very open to questions and helping us to make the best of the week.
The insight I received during this placement increased my knowledge in regards in to the finance industry even further, thus I know have a a clearer image on what career I want to pursue in the future. In addition to this, I also know which modules I will chose next year in order to further my knowledge regarding finance, thus would benefit my knowledge to purse a career in this Industry.
The Company
The insight was very well structured as well as the schedule of the week. We had a wide range of activities, covering most sections of the Markets division allowing us to understand what the different roles and divisions consisted of. We also had a lot of different events, allowing us to take part in different activities all giving us different experiences, giving us a real feel of the company.
The atmosphere was really great. There was a very good balance between insights to the different divisions and opportunities to network with people. Everyone was very friendly, both the students who attended as well as everyone at J.P Morgan.
They invested a lot in order for us to develop as a person, giving us the opportunity to explore all the divisions thus allowing us to determine which position is the most suited for us. There were also different talks on how we can most benefit from the spring week and a talk on how to be a confident presenter, from which I learnt a lot and helped me develop for giving speeches.
I think this aspect is probably what I gained the most from the insight. Beforehand I wasn't exactly sure of all the specific roles etc. However at J.P Morgan not only did we have a presentation on all the different roles but we were also able to do two rotations at two different desks to experience first hand how these divisions function on a day to day basis, thus giving us an idea how it would be to have a full time role.
This insight really emphasised the culture of J.P Morgan, it showed how internationally diverse the company it is. In addition to that I witnessed how friendly the culture was and how everyone was working as a team and there was no competitiveness against one another.
The content during the day allowed me to realise that I am sure that I was to pursue a career in the financial industry, specifically in J.P Morgan. It also helped me decide what specific division and role I want to take on.
Everything Else
They covered all travel and accommodation expenses. They paid for my trip from Paris and back and they also gave me a studio/apartment for my stay. They also provided breakfast and lunch, and dinner on most days. In addition to that we got a travel card to be able to travel around London.
The networking opportunities throughout the week were really great. We had several speed networking events with associates from different asset classes, we also has a lunch with senior managers allowing us to ask them about their experience etc. In addition to this throughout our rotations were able to meet a lot of people within the division we were assigned to. Not only did we have networking events with employees but also for the students, thus allowing everyone to get to know each other and create a friendly atmosphere. The networking aspect of this insight week was absolutely great.
The networking and social opportunities were great. Everyone had the opportunity to talk to a wide range of employees and there were always enough employees for everyone to be able to ask all the questions they wanted to. The social events with students were also very well organised and a lot of fun.
I was able to talk to a lot of employees about how their daily life functions, thus also got to know about their activities outside of work.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend. If a friend of mine is interested in pursuing a career in the financial industry I would definitely tell them to go to J.P Morgan.
