About You
I enjoyed the conditions provided, plus the HR team and other employees were extremely friendly and helpful. They took care of accommodation and travel expenses too and the schedule was organised properly.
As stated in the previous answer, the employees from the company were extremely friendly and helpful. They were always up for answering any of our questions. Also, all the talks regarding several technologies used at the company were done professionally.
We were given tasks on almost every day, all of which were hugely varied which was good as it made every day different. Most of the tasks I was given were suitable and appropriate for my knowledge and experience, therefore not much guidance or support was required of them. However, whenever I had a question they were always very trying to explain everything as clearly as possible.
The work I was given although it varied, sometimes got quite repetitive, such as processing xml formatted messages through message-bus. This kind of work I did not find to assist me in my studies in second year of university as it was simply just a receptive task, however it was hugely valued by the team when completed as it represents an essential tool for the team to communicate with customers.
The Company
The insight was really well structured, we were given a timetable of all events at the beginning of the Spring Insight so we knew when everything was happening, from social events to talks. There was various departmental talks during my time here on everything from business-related world problems to technological problems the company encounters such as cyber security and machine learning and big data, giving me great exposure to most things that go on at JP Morgan.
I was given a very warm welcome by the HR staff at the beginning of the spring insight which was hugely appreciated. I was then introduced to my team where the atmosphere again was very welcoming and accepting.
I felt that over my time here I wasn't invested in hugely by the company, however this is most likely due to the short time I spent here and is totally understandable. However, I believe the time I spent with the staff and the time the staff invested in me was invaluable as they were always very willing to sit down and just have a chat with me about what department I'd like to go into and general career advice.
This insight gave me a huge opportunity to see what it's like to work full time as a graduate analyst at JP Morgan by having the chance to shadow certain employees in the company who showed us there daily tasks and the general atmosphere among the teams.
Once I finished my spring insight I realised that apart from other financial corporations or other offices around the world, the culture and atmosphere at the office I took part in was quite different. As it was only focused on technology, the staff was more lenient regarding dress code and other similar aspects.
It was very valuable.
Everything Else
My pay represented reimbursed my travel and living expenses throughout my time spent with JP Morgan. I hugely appreciate being paid like this, especially as the placement was such a great experience and so beneficial to me.
yes there were several opportunities to do this. There was a big lunch with the employees as well as a pizza & networking dinner in the first evening of the insight. There was also a rounders match with the graduates which was a great way to meet people of the graduates scheme.
Yes there were several opportunities to do this. The firm encouraged the interns to meet up with drinks etc on several occasions, following those events set up by the firm, the interns then continued to meet up a few times a week for drinks after work. Also, there was a bowling evening organised on a Wednesday with unlimited tab at the bar paid by JP Morgan, which was one of the best evenings for all the interns.
No, not really.
Yes, I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend.
