About You
I did enjoy it very much. All the presentations were very informative and insightful. The group project showed the importance of team work and hard work. The networking events were great and I met a lot of people. Concluding: one big success.
Everything was arranged perfectly: flight, accomodation, meals and travel card. This enabled us to get the most out of the week, because we did not have to worry about anything. During the desk rotations and networking events, J.P.Morgan employees took the time for us, despite their very busy schedules. One person even apologized for the fact that he send an e-mail to a client while he was talking to me.
One word: great. I never felt alone or lost in the enormous building of J.P. Morgan or in the city. Everything we had to do was very clear.
Really helpful. I gained not only very in-depth knowlegde of the businesses of J.P. Morgan and more academic related knowlegde (how a CDS exactly works and how it is priced for example), but also I had the chance to develop the presentation skills, networking skills and team work skills unbelievably quickly.
The Company
As it says to the right of this box: seamless. I have no other words for it.
Despite the hard work and tight schedules, I always felt the drive to keep going and make the most out of it, as I realized this was a massive opportunity for me. Everyone was very kind, helpful, open and inspiring.
A lot. As I said before, everything was arranged such that we were able to focus completely on the Spring Week itself. Moreover, the presentation-skills presentation by Esther Hope was very helpful, our mentors were very helpful, all the employees that came over to tell about their department did a very good job and HR did fantastically. All these things can be regarded as an investment (since people cost money as well and they have opportunity costs).
It helped me really much. It is still hard to imagine daily tasks such as admin etc, but I think I have a very good understanding of the kind of jobs the different departments perform.
Again, a lot. When I prepared for my Spring Week Interview, my answer regarding culture to 'Why J.P. Morgan?' would have been something like: 'I heard that the culture was really great'. When I prepared the interviews in the Interview Day, I was able to write 2 pages on the culture of J.P. Morgan and why it is so great (even compared to competitors).
I already had a vague idea of where I wanted to go: something with mathematical modelling. The presentations made the differences between Sales, Trading, Research, Risk, Structuring, SPG and Investor Services very clear. The desk rotations only confirmed that I really really want to do structuring, SPG or Equity Marketing/Special Situations.
Everything Else
All costs were covered, but everything was paid directly by J.P. Morgan. I did not have to fill out any declaration forms, which is very professional I think.
Yes a whole lot. And the variety of employees was very good as well. I talked to so many different people from so many different desks, absolutely amazing.
Very very good. As I said, a very diverse group of employees, who gave me the expression that we were the only thing that was important to them at that moment, enough time to talk to them, very relaxed environment, the food was very good and the view was also very nice.
Yes. I went together with Martina Sol to the Friday Afternoon Drink at Obica where I met quite some people. Before we met, she had gone to the gym and afterwards she left for a girls night with her friends. So there are lots of opportunities outside of work, but work remains the single most important piece of life in this phase. The work is hard, exhausting and challenging, so I think there are less opportunities than a standard 9-17 job, but still relatively a lot compared to the guys from Investment Banking/M&A.
Yes, to everyone actually. So extremely insightful and I discovered so many things of which I think others do not even know the existance of.
