About You
It was only a two day insight but it was very enjoyable. The programme was very well designed and made the most of the short time we had. Everyone at EY was so friendly and I felt really well valued even for such a short interaction with the firm. The application process and the programme left a great impression of EY on me and made it stand out amongst its competitors as somewhere I really want to work in the future.
I felt highly valued during the two days. I felt as if EY were really trying to sell themselves to me rather than the other way round. The friendliness of everyone really made me feel very welcome. The complimentary breakfast and lunch on both days and the dinner at a nice restaurant on the first day only made me feel even more value by EY. Free food is the quickest way to a student's heart!
There was lots of information about EY and particularly the tax and assurance service lines. As this was an insight into the firm and service lines, there was not too much about the application process for internships and graduate jobs, however the reasons for this were clearly explained and this information was sent to me following the programme.
The information was incredibly valuable for helping to decide a future career path, and the networking skills I learnt will prove to be valuable in the future I am sure. There was nothing in the way of helping with my degree, though this was not expected as it was made clear from the get go that this programme was about getting to know the firm.
The Company
Very well structured, the organiser Justin did an amazing job. The first day was all about getting know more about tax and assurance within EY and getting to know EY as a firm and potential employer. The second day was more interactive with a group case study exercise which was great. There were plenty of breaks during both days and many speakers of varying seniority to help us get to know the firm better at all levels.
Really good atmosphere. This was partly down to the structure of the days but also massively due to the wonderfully kind people at EY and the active participation of the candidates on the programme.
This programme was not really about personal training and development, but the networking opportunities were plentiful and useful.
It is very difficult to ascertain what a full time job would be like in just two days, especially in a field such as assurance. Nevertheless, I got a great idea of what the people at EY are like and what the company culture is like. Speaking to recent graduates who had been there for a year or two was very useful as they were very honest about all the good and bad things about the job. The case study gave a sneak peek at what a job at EY in tax or assurance may be like.
Very helpful for understanding the company culture. There was lots of contact with employees at different levels of the firm and they were all very kind and welcoming whether they were partners or fresh graduates.
It was useful in helping me to see that a career in assurance may be right for me, however learning more about the tax service department has made my choice a bit more difficult! After spending some time with EY I am now almost certain I want to become an accountant and am highly attracted to the assurance service line.
Everything Else
Travel expenses were reimbursed. For those whose travel time would have been over 2 hours, they were offered an overnight stay in a nearby hotel, paid for by the firm. The reimbursement limit was £100, which is plenty for someone like me who just had a short commute in from North London.
During breakfast, lunch and dinner there were opportunities to network with employees of varying seniority. Also we were assigned an employee to our group for a case study task and we learnt a lot from speaking to her about the job and culture at EY.
They were really good. Networking over food is always a bit easier as people's hands are full! There were many different employees to talk to and they all rotated so we got to speak to most of the workers who had kindly given their time to speak to us.
I found out a bit about this by speaking to employees. Friday drinks are regularly held, and for special occasions like CHristmas there is usually a great big party. I also found out about EY's version of university-esque societies which allow workers to get involved with all sorts of hobbies, including sports.
100%. It is an amazing opportunity to learn a lot about EY and tax and assurance and to spend 2 days on the top floor of their wonderful London Bridge office with stunning views of London.
