About You
The Spring into Operations was an incredible opportunity to find out more about JP Morgan and the operations division. At times it was quite challenging but that is the part of the offer - you have to push yourself, and the reward is worth it. The people were amazing and I so glad I got the opportunity to take part in the Spring week.
JP Morgan took great care of us during the spring week. We were assigned with a truly brilliant spring week facilitator who literally went beyond in making us feel welcomed. It was evident that the firm pays a great attention to its employees and we could feel it as well even thought we were just interns.
The organization of the spring week was brilliant. Before our arrival to the event we were sent regular emails updating us with the current stage of the process and what needs to be done next. When on site, we received a full guide to the spring week with a detailed schedule of every event and its location. There was always somebody we could ask for help if needed.
The amount and quality of information we have been exposed to during the spring week was incredible. I can say that after the event I am much more confident in what I want to do and what I want to achieve in my life. Through numerous networking opportunities and through conversations with my peers I developed a pretty solid sense of what it is like to work in finance.
The Company
Structure was well balanced - a mixture of networking opportunities, presentations and workshops. At every point it was clear where we need to be and how to find the location. We were provided with a printed schedule to be able to keep track of the upcoming events. Every evening we got a brief of what is coming up next day and if there is anything we need to prepare for.
People were incredibly friendly, smart and engaging. Even though it was at time quite competitive, people remained very approachable. Some of the content of the spring week was quite challenging and that has put a lot of stress at times at us, but it was an excellent learning opportunity. The atmosphere was great overall.
The investment in us on part of JP Morgan was huge. The hotel we have stayed in was excellent and all other services and food was wonderful. They have also dedicated quite a few of their staff to come down to talk to us which was very appreciated. We were also given amazing notebooks to take notes in - a nice habit I aim to keep going even after the spring week.
We got an opportunity to shadow an employee for couple of hours during our spring week - this was one of the highlights for me for sure. It gave me a much appreciated opportunity to experience firsthand what is like to be part of the operations division. The numerous talks/presentation were very helpful in building the understanding of what operations actually do.
A lot. We got a lot of exposure to the actual JP Morgan employees and this gave us an opportunity to talk about and experience the culture first hand. The shadowing opportunity was also a great way of learning about the inner culture. Since the majority of the spring week was held inside the actual JP Morgan buildings we were literally surrounded by the actual culture - a nice way to learn about it.
This is what I value the most about the spring week. The peer group was amazing and we had so many deep and insightful conversations about our careers that it would be surprising if anybody left without improving their understanding of their future career goals. The presentations, networking opportunities and the final interviews all provided us with a lot of ways of learning about our careers.
Everything Else
JP Morgan paid for most of the travel expenses. We were asked to book our flight tickets through their dedicated platform - to be honest this was a terrible experience as it allowed me to book my flights in only certain times and airlines. To book rail tickets I had to call in and it took me over 1.5 hours to get them sorted - the line kept cutting off, the people on the other side did not seem to care much and it was overall a pain. I wish this was improved.
