About You
Throughout the insight course I felt that I learned a lot of new and exciting information which made me think that the financial services was the right place for me. The organised activities were always useful and very relevant to the task at hand and hopefully I have obtained a place on their 2017 Summer Internship Programme.
During the week with the firm I felt as though my opinions and questioned mattered. Employees and people on their graduate scheme were only too happy to help and made me feel as though no question was too idiotic to ask. Employees understood the fact that we were entering with a very limited knowledge base and therefore took us through stage of any task methodically and helpfully.
As mentioned in the previous question the graduate recruiters at J.P. Morgan were only too happy to help with any situation or problem which arose. I was rather apprehensive before embarking on the course and with the support provided I immediately felt at ease and able to fully contribute and involve myself in the course. If any problems did arise, they were sorted instantly and with the minimum of fuss, which can only be commended.
Due to the week I now feel able to tackle problems and other situations in the knowledge that in the future the skills learnt in my degree are fully relevant to the working environment. The Spring Week forced me to recognise that Classics can be applied to any role no matter what - except something very scientific requiring a certain degree. As a result I feel rejuvenated and excited for my potential career ahead.
The Company
I would definitely say that the course was seamless in its transition from activity to activity and that was purely down to their team of dedicated graduate recruiters. Everyone on the course knew what they were supposed to be doing and when it should happen from the very first hour on the very first day. I could not commend their team any higher on what they enabled us to achieve. They were enthusiastic and great people to be around and an example for all other companies in inspiring the younger generations to want to join in the future.
The atmosphere during the course was relaxed but totally focused on learning for the duration of the week. The days were long and sometimes long talks were necessary but that did not stop many remaining very focusing whether it be taking notes or asking questions. I felt that I made a lot of friends during the course and that was down to the environment that was set up by the graduate recruitment team at J.P. Morgan. Everyone felt able to converse with everyone, no matter what the situation was.
Throughout the week we were given several talks in what our role would be if we joined the firm and how certain things happen. In addition we were supplied with a multitude of advice and helpful hints and pointers as to how to approach certain opportunities later in our working careers, for example interviews. There were, however, moments when talks did perhaps go on for too long or could have been made more interactive.
This week had a significant impact on me as to what I would be doing if I worked for the company. They explained everything very cogently and helpfully and I ended the week knowing a lot more about the company and my role within it. In others words I can not wait to get started if I'm offered a role within the company.
Integrity. Mobility. Responsibility. Throughout the week the company culture was able to be observed at every opportunity and was echoed by all the employees and speakers we met. It is clear that J.P. Morgan is an institution in which all of its employees believes in and can speak about very enthusiastically and with an abundance of energy. J.P. Morgan is not just like all the other banks it appears and is very happy to take the time to explain things to its customers and everyone else.
I am now very enthusiastic in starting my future career and cannot wait for what it contains.
Everything Else
J.P. Morgan was very helpful in reimbursing us on travel and hotel expenses, even going as far as to provide dinner for us on a number of occasions. I could not be more thankful for their help in ensuring that I could definitely attend the Spring Week.
There were almost too many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company.
We were encouraged to speak to and converse with a great deal of employees who happily took an hour out of their day to speak to us about their experiences and what they have learnt through years with the company. Sometimes the networking events did feel a little forced but everyone was keen to get involved and ask questions with some very informed sources.
We found out a great deal about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work. It is this aspect, for me, that creates a community-like feel within J.P. Morgan. When I found out that it has its own sports teams and various schemes throughout the campus, whether it be socials or an eco-team I was somewhat surprised but also very excited to see and observe such a thriving and happy working environment, which doesn't always come across at other companies.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend.
