About You
I found the insight programme to be very enjoyable as not only did I learn more about the different business functions at KPMG, I also had the opportunity to build new friendships and connections with both peers and employees. I also really enjoyed the friendly culture at the firm.
The programme coordinators were very welcoming and were always about to chat with us to make sure everything was well. The employees that we had the chance to interact with during the networking were also very patient, with the questions we had. . In all, we were made to feel very valued during this insight.
A well measured level of guidance was provided during the business challenge. This ensured that we were on the right track but at the same time giving us the freedom to express ourselves and the attributes that we bring through our independent thinking and creativity.
The skills sessions that we had included topics such as building a personal brand, presentation skills and client negotiation skills. During these session I was able to pick up key tips that will certainly be useful even beyond my degree studies in the workplace. The talks on the different business functions at KPMG was also very informative in helping me make an informed decision on my future career.
The Company
The insight was very well planned and coordinated. The schedule of events were well spaced out and well timed, and there were also a good number of breaks in between sessions. The interspersion of interactive sessions with talks also helped to ensure that things did not get too mundane.
The atmosphere was kept very lively by the enthusiasm of the speakers and the good amount of interaction they had with the audience. We were also given plenty of opportunities to interact with our peers during group sessions, breaks as well as networking session that made the insight a fun place to be in.
A lot of time and effort had definitely gone into planning and executing the insight and the speakers also made the effort to take time off their busy work schedules to come down and speak to us and engage with us in a networking session. We were also reimbursed for our travel expenses which was a very nice gesture.
We were given a pretty comprehensive outlook of the different functions at KPMG and the employees that came down to speak to us were very patient in explaining to us about their job scopes as well as personal experiences. I felt that through the talks and one-to-one interaction with the employees I am now in a much better position to make an informed decision about a potential career at KPMG.
The personal experiences that the employees shared with us during the talks and the networking sessions certainly gave us a better outlook to the company culture. Spending two days at the KPMG office also helped me to have a personal feel of the culture of the firm, which I found to be very friendly. Then again of course it would require a greater duration of time spent actually working at the firm to have a more comprehensive grasp of the culture at KPMG.
The content during the two days were rather valuable as they stretched both from the more technical aspects of the job scopes of employees to their personal experiences. These are both aspects that I take into account when deciding on a future career and hence I was definitely put in a better position in considering a prospective career at KPMG.
Everything Else
There was a 2 hour networking session at the end of the first day where we had the opportunity to chat with graduate trainees of the different business functions. Also, we had the opportunity to speak to the different speakers from the various business functions that came down to talk to us throughout the course of the 2 days.
I would definitely recommend this insight to a friend or anyone who has an interest in a potential career at KPMG. The insight definitely achieved its purpose of exposing us to a clearer and more in depth outlook of the business functions and culture at the firm. On top of that, I really enjoyed the opportunity to build networks with employees and friendships with peers that I met during the insight.
