    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Accenture gives you a lot of scope to learn new things and develop in the avenues you're interested, provided there are projects available. I enjoyed this aspect of it and everyone is really friendly which makes it enjoyable. My reasoning for giving it a 7 is that I did struggle sometimes because you have to be very confident and autonomous in your work and finding a project can be difficult is there is a lack of resource.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • My team and manager were always complementary and that is a real incentive when you've completed a bit of work. Feedback was never negatively phrased, only constructive and it was appreciated that I was an intern so had limited experience.

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • You have to work autonomously on your own role and tasks so as long as you ensure you ask all the questions you need you will be fine. I always felt that there was support there if I needed it, so it really depends on how much you ask for it.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • There were always jobs to do and the day was busy and if not there is always scope to ask for additional tasks. You are expected to manage your own time.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • It was a mixture depending on the tasks available. More experienced team members always had the tasks that required more responsibility, but I was given my own section of the project to manage myself and you're always given the responsibility to manage your own time and conduct etc. So overall I feel like I was trusted and given an adequate amount of responsibility for my experience level.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I learnt valuable IT skills and we had a full training afternoon in excel. The most important learning came from industry insights, in where I want to take my career. Networking is a really important skill in consultancy so I also aimed to develop this. My manager and other team members provided practical career advice on conduct etc which is really helpful. Accenture is really strong on training and you can do a large range of online courses, in any area you are interested in e.g digitial marketing.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everyone was really friendly so there was always a good atmosphere. People work hard though, so there is a good balance between being able to get on with your own work, but then grab a coffee when you need a chat. The team aspect of consultancy made it have a good vibe and even if you don't know anyone people are still chatty.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The organisation when trying to find a project was very poor because there were resourcing issues so we started our internship and were immediately on the bench, which was a shame because only being here for 6 months you want to make the most of your time. I found the on boarding process well organised though and the initial training week seemed well organised with everything going accordingly to the schedule we were given.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • There was a lot of resources for online training, but that is it other than the initial training in the first week which covered excel, networking and communication skills. I think if you ask you can get additional training and development but it depends on whether you have the time once in a project.

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    Company Parties/Events

    Working from home

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If you do well in your placement, Accenture offer graduate roles when finishing university. I think the opportunities to develop are great and you can manage your own career path in terms of industries and management levels. It is also a great place to get contacts for future employment, particularly using Linked In.

    5/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I think there is, but you have to actively seek it. After the first week all of the interns are spread out to their own projects, so you don't really see anyone except for the drinks they arrange every month. A lot of the graduates have a good social scene though, so you have to take the responsibility yourself to get to know people ad find social events. Teams often do team lunches and there is budget for team dinners.

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Being in the centre of the city, drinks are expensive and there isn't particularly nice affordable accommodation, so most people live a bit further out and commute in. You can be lucky and find spare rooms, but it depends on your budget and preferences. Generally though, as with most things in central London, it is expensive.

    2/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • I worked in Fenchurch street, so was central, meaning there was large scope for finding clubs/bars/pubs. Going to pubs is more popular though because its not an area people live, its an area people work then go for drinks after work. I didn't really experience much nightlife though and for clubs I think most people go further afield.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • I didn't get involved with much myself, but there are a lot of opportunities offered. There are a large range of social clubs and interest groups (almost like having societies at university). Accenture also always seem to have a charity event taking place. I enjoyed going to the talks and industry groups often organised insights and meet the manager events, including cocktail making classes at be at one which was fun.
