    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I really enjoyed this insight because everyone was really friendly and welcoming. The programme gave me a real insight of how working in JP Morgan would be like. We work shadowed employees and saw what type of work they did. The company had a welcoming vibe to it as soon as you walk in, from the security guard to the senior managers of the firm. I ABSOLUTELY enjoyed myself there and I hope to work there in the future.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I really felt valued because I was treated with respected and integrity. JP Morgan employees really cherish everyone even though I was just there for a week. I was given privileges such as being in a really nice hotel and all. They organised socials for us which was very nice and food was served for free swell. I honestly felt valued and no matter who you are they respect you and thats something that wanted me to work there in the future. We were also treated as if we were working there with expectations from us and so on.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • We received a lot of guidance especially because we were first years. I had a mentor who was a worker in JP Morgan which was very nice and welcoming. It just goes to show that they are a type of firm who actually care about investing in young people. My mentor was really nice and told me about her journey in getting into the firm. I could also speak to the HR member if I had a problem of course and they were both nice. The support was very outstanding and it put me at ease swell. Knowing that there is someone I can speak to if I need to

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We had different skill sessions. One of them was we had a group task in coding. I don't have any computer science background so my coach was really nice and encouraged me to not feel scared or anything. This group task developed me as a person as it made me more comfortable to try things i have not tried before and to give it a go. It also helped me put my skills into practice (in terms of working in a team). I felt like this was a reflection of a real life scenario if i was working in JP Morgan as they heavenly emphasis on team work and the importance of it. I really enjoyed the group task even though it was challenging, I felt I had the support I needed

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The spring week was well structured but at times we run out of time to do certain activities. But nevertheless, the HR employees spent a lot of effort and time making sure everything run smoothly and I could tell definitely. There was definitely a lot of information to take in because we received talks from various different people, from recent graduates to senior managers. We also had the opportunity to ask questions which was very good and insightful. I took lots of notes which helped me from being too overwhelmed with the information being thrown at me and asked lots of questions when I was confused.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was very welcoming from the security guard to the senior managers. There was a friendly atmosphere and you could tell everyone kinda wants to speak to you, are essentially interested in you. For me, during lunch time, I had an opportunity to speak to one of the workers who was extremely nice. They were genuinely interested in me and about me so that was really welcoming. I had the opportunity to ask them questions and they answered respectively. They were not frustrated or anything even though I was asking lots of questions so that was good. The atmosphere was really good and I could tell it wasn't fake swell

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • They invested a lot of time in us, like I said we had a hotel, there was a coach driver who picked us up everyday to and from work. So that was very excellent. Also in terms of their time, they invested a lot of time in us i.e. being exposed to senior managers and recent graduates and so on really showed they actually cared. They also made me work shadowed employees which was very insightful and rewarding. There was a coding game that we all participated in and it showed that they put in a lot of effort in making sure that we get the most out of the spring week and really get to know JP Morgan as a company.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • It really did because we participated in similar things I would be doing as a full time analyst. for example the coding game and working in teams is a reflection of what I would be doing in JP Morgan if I was working full time there. They really put in a lot of effort in making sure that it was as close to real life as possible which they succeeded at. The team work was tough but I thoroughly enjoyed myself. To be honest, it just confirmed that I want to work in JP Morgan because of their culture and their lifestyle. We also had time to socialise insinuating that working there is not all about work but also about doing things outside work.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • I was truly exposed to their culture in JP Morgan. For example the coding game and working in teams is a reflection of what I would be doing in JP Morgan if I was working full time there and was basically their culture in JP Morgan. They are very big on working in teams and working with different people with different perspectives and so on. We also had time to socialise insinuating that working there is not all about work but also about doing things outside work. They are also big on balancing your life style with activities outside of work which was also nice and showed their culture in the company.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • The content was very helpful and helped me decide that I may want to work in JP Morgan in the future. They told us how easy it is to move around in the company in terms of division and location wise. There was scope for movement and it was evident in the lives of the JP Morgan employees. They also told us about their latest software their developing and it showed me that I want to be part of a firm where we are always looking to be one step ahead. Most importantly they were always honest about the information given and when they didn't have an answer to something they were honest about it aswell and not embarrassed because they know they are not perfect

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Very well. I personally didn't have to be reimbursed because I was provided with accommodation and a coach driver to drop me to work and my hotel after work. So I didn't have an issue with this one but I know other people who were travelling from home were reimburse very well and the company is even keen on making sure that everyone is reimbursed adequately because we are not paid. I personally didn't mind not being paid because the experience was worthwhile. I would definitely do it again for free because its an experience of a lifetime. A lot of people get rejected from investment banks so when i was accepted i was just very happy

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • YES DEFINITELY. During lunch time, I went out of my way to meet different people who worked in JP Morgan, that was one of my targets and was successfully achieved. The employees were nice and willing to talk to me about their job and whatever I wanted to talk to them about to be honest. They were welcoming and answered honestly. During lunch time, I was int he canteen where all the employees go to eat so it was easier to sit with an employee if you wanted. Of course you had to be tactful, you can just be interrupting in peoples lunch time with their friends and so on. You just have to be polite and consider other people to be honest.

  • 13. How were the networking/ social event opportunities?
  • This question is kinda answered in the previous question. But YES DEFINITELY. The company had social events for us to network with employees and so on. We went out about twice within the week and during lunch time, you could also talk to the employees there if you want because at one point we were in the canteen where all the employees go to eat so it was easier to sit with an employee if you wanted. That was very nice of them because it made everyones life easier. Of course you had to be tactful, you can just be interrupting in peoples lunch time with their friends and so on. You just have to be polite and consider other people to be honest.

  • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • Yes, we even had a talk from one of their extra activities they had outside work. It was from the green team which aims to make the company as green as possible. The people who gave the presentation were workers at JP Morgan. When networking, the employees were also part of different teams such as football, netball and other activities. So it just goes to show that there is more to work than just work. The employees do their work but also have time to socialise and do things they enjoy and are passionate about. So that was good to see! The workers were also opened about what activities they were part of and were more than happy to discuss if you asked them

  • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • DEFINITELY!! I would say that this is the best way to find out if you want to work in an investment bank or not. Hearing people talk about it and tell you is not enough. Research is not enough, you have to go out of your way and be in the environment because its different from reading it online or whatever. It is a worthwhile first hand experience and the process is not too long so I would say get your applications as soon as possible. The phone interviews are quite welcoming and chilled swell, of course be professional but don't be too nervous because its very nice and cool. I would definitely recommend it to a friend.
