About You
I enjoyed the insight tremendously. The Grad Recruitment did an amazing job in organising a week full of networking and social events alongside great interactive classroom-style presentations on the different areas within Markets and two half-day rotations on the trading floor.
I felt extremely valued - the employees all had a vested interest in my wellbeing and were extremely open and willing to answer all of my questions. On the desk rotations, the analysts would take the time to teach me about what they do and even introduce me to senior employees who were just as warm and friendly. A lot of money was invested into the programme which was evident and this also made me feel valued.
I received a lot of guidance and support during the insight, from both the Grad Recruitment team and the employees from the business. During the group presentation preparation, I had two mentors helping my group. They were extremely helpful, available to answer any questions that I or another group member had.
I developed many skills during this week, including communication and presentation skills, teamwork, initiative, problem solving and many more, all of which will assist me in my degree and beyond.
The Company
It was structured incredibly well. From welcome speeches to interactive sessions - all split up with the occasional but vital tea and coffee break. The days were not too long and even if they were, I did not notice because I was always engaged in some sort of activity.
It was a very friendly and open atmosphere at the firm, both amongst the employees and amongst the interns. Everyone was very warm and there was a culture of excellence which was very inspiring for me and the rest of the cohort. There was a strong emphasis on learning a lot but having fun whilst we did it, which we sure did.
There was a presentation skills session with Esther Stanhope, which was really engaging and informative. At the beginning of the week, we learned about personal and professional brand and how to network.
This insight did exactly that. There were panels with analysts and associates who spoke about their day to day activities. There were also plenty of networking events to speak to employees about their roles and what life is like at J.P. Morgan. There were also interactive sessions during presentations of various roles, where we completed case studies in order to fully understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm.
It helped a lot - through the interaction with the employees, both junior and senior, it was clear to see the J.P. Morgan has a culture which values its employees, is keen to nurture and develop junior talent, prides itself on being open and collegiate and values diversity.
Extremely valuable - From the presentations, I now know the skills that I need to be suitable for the different roles within my division of choice and, through speaking to employees, I know where my interest really lies and therefore the content really did help me to make a decision on the direction of my future career path.
Everything Else
I was given accommodation for the 5 days and was given a zone 1-2 travel card for the week.
There were numerous opportunities for networking: at least one networking session took place on each day. This included a varied mix of both junior and senior employees across the different divisions.
They were incredible - we had a fantastic welcome event, a midweek quiz night, and a farewell drinks reception. They were great opportunities for us to network amongst ourselves and get to know our cohort more.
Yes, I had ample opportunity to speak to employees about what they get up to aside from their day jobs.
I would most definitely. This has been the best insight thus far (I have completed 2 others at other banks) and this has stood out as the one which allows for the culture of the bank to really shine through. I felt extremely valued whilst on this programme and I learned a lot and developed some genuine professional relationships within the firm and with my cohort.
