About You
I enjoyed it far more than I had expected to. Although challenging, the experience was equally if not more rewarding.
I felt extremely valued. It was obvious that JP Morgan invested a huge amount of money into the programme, but I found the time invested by employees within the firm to make me feel most valued.
I received plenty of support whenever I needed it, from my project mentor and from HR.
I have no doubt that the information, techniques and insights learnt during the week will stand to me. What I will find most useful going forward is the presentation skills workshop, interview advice and case study.
The Company
It would have been nice to receive a timetable prior to commencing the week if possible.
There was a good positive welcoming atmosphere throughout
JP Morgan invested a huge amount in terms of offering their skills and expertise. I found direct contact with my mentor to be very helpful.
Although we were unable to complete work shadowing, hearing from analysts and other employees and carrying out our own case study certainly helped. It may have been beneficial to see first hand other areas of the firm.
From meeting employees and dealing with them it was very easy to get a taste of the culture of the firm, on top of how much it was emphasised in lectures.
Because we only got an insight into investment banking and risk we did not hear about all areas of the firm. However, hearing about this in detail was a big help and opened me up to areas I had never previously considered.
Everything Else
All travel and accommodation were paid for, apart from transport from airport (Heathrow express)
Yes, a lot, but at times we did not have a huge amount of time to build any form of solid relationship with individual employees.
I found these opportunities to be great to get to know other interns, even more could have been included as the chances to mix with other interns in a casual context were limited.
This was not mentioned at all apart from hearing about the gym from one employee who doesn't use it, but this is likely due to the long hours involved in investment banking
Yes I would recommend anyone interested in investment banking to apply to this programme. It is the best way to gain hands on experience in the industry
