About You
The week long spring insight was a very enjoyable experience. There were a variety of events, mostly group tasks related to the business and talks from various employees. There were also a couple of social events, which was nice.
All of the employees were very friendly and took the time to speak me and made sure that they answered all of my questions, therefore I felt fairly valued.
Most people I spoke to had very good advice about many things from interview techniques to career progression. There was a lot of information to take in.
The programme was not really focused on technical skills so didn't learn much to complement my degree, however I really did learn a lot about the financial sector and how an investment bank works. I also felt that I developed my leadership and networking skills.
The Company
The week was fairly well organised and went according to the timetable we were given at the start of the week. Some talks overran, but this was compensated as others were cut shorter.
The coordinators of the spring week were very enthusiastic, which gave the insight a very good atmosphere.
I was able to gauge the general workload of working for the company and the sort of opportunities for mobility within the firm.
I was able to understand and witness J.P. Morgan's core values and the way employees were expected to conduct business.
In terms of helping me decide on a career path, the week was fairly helpful as it allowed me to rule out certain roles, but it also opened my eyes to other areas and jobs within a bank that I had not considered.
Everything Else
All travel expenses were covered, from getting to Bournemouth for the week and also travel to and from the office every day. Accommodation was also covered as they put us in a very good hotel. Finally, food was provided for all 3 meals on most days.
There was a networking event every day, and one of the events was work shadowing with a graduate, where I was able met her team.
The networking opportunities were generally enjoyable, every employee I met was helpful in answering questions and friendly. There was also a social event where the participants were given the opportunity to experience a work social.
We were told about many opportunities such as sports and on site volunteers that keep up the green areas of the campus.
I would fully recommend the insight to a friend.
