About You
The insight week was an informative week about operations, with talks and activities on the topic of ope3rations. The members of staff were enthusiastic and genuinely lovely people, whilst the other spring interns were relaxed and very friendly. These two factors combined to make it an enjoyable week. However at times there were talks that seemed to drag, and activities that didn’t stretch (although of course it is nigh on impossible to be incredibly exciting the entire week). Overall a great week!
The staff made each individual feel as if they were an equal, especially in the group tasks where a business rep would work as part of your team. There was no coffee making or any of those clichéd boring/demeaning tasks, only talks about the related topics and activities. They made you feel valued the entire week.

This was a really informative week in terms of knowing where I wish to work. Some people loved the area of operations, however I learnt that it wasn't for me. As they said on the week, knowing what you don't like, is just as important as knowing what you might like. This will guide my future career choices.
The Company
Very well. From day 1 they had the schedule packed with information gathering events, and skill building activities. Each day would be full, and they even put on some evening events which were very enjoyable. Incredibly well organised. This made the week fly past, as there was not a moment where you weren't doing something.
Unlike what you may hear about bankers being ultra-competitive to the point of being unpleasant to each other, this was a totally different atmosphere. No-one was scared to make mistakes as we were encouraged to throw ourselves into it. On top of this, the staff were lovely, and the other spring weekers are people I would be friends with regardless of whether we were thrown together. From day one there was a sense of community and friendship.
There were a lot of talks, some of which were extremely interesting, but others I found a bit dull. This of course will be the same with anywhere, as everyone has the areas they are interested in. The skills sessions were very useful in terms of learning what skills are needed to succeed in operations, and then building upon these.
The work shadowing was especially useful for this, and the fact that everyone we met was willing to stop and speak to us about life at the firm made it easy to picture what each day is like. On top of this, the fact that it gives interviews for the next years summer internship means that finding out about life there is one step easier.
J.P. Morgan's culture seems absolutely lovely. The individuals we spoke to were honest, not trying to sugar-coat everything, but telling us how they felt within the corporate culture. It came across in the way they acted, making jokes with us and generally being relaxed, as well as emphasising how teamwork was the main focus. This is where they set themselves aside from other banks; they were much more personal.

Everything Else
They put you up in a lovely hotel, which shocked all of us on the week due to the large size of the rooms we got. They also paid for travel expenses to and from the week, meaning that you only really had to pay for dinner each night. The food they provided was lovely, and without having to worry about the exorbitant train fairs nowadays, it was a very cheap week!
Work shadowing meant a deep insight into daily life and introductions to the individual's team. On top of this, after graduate panel and speaker events the employees would stick around meaning you could chat to them and network. There were also some drinks and/ or lunch events to network and learn more about the business/ get contact details.
Great. Free food and drink, need I say more?
All the employees were really helpful, telling us about what they do in their spare tiome. From a firm football club, to the speakers that come in, there seemed to be a lot going on in the J.P. Morgan Bournemouth office. On top of this we had a talk about the local area, so found out about the nightlife and activities happening around the town/nearby towns.
Yes, the insight itself is very helpful, so regardless of whether you wish to work in operations, finding out a bit about it, and just enjoying the week is worth doing.
