About You
We were given a lot of information on Tax and Assurance, giving us some insight into some divisions EY cover and some of the work it entails, with also great opportunities to network with their colleagues.
All the staff we networked with gave us importance and answered any questions we had
The insight programme didn't require us to be guided as such but one task was given to help us discover our strengths which is useful for us to identify where we could improve for our future
The skills developed through the client case study gave us a great insight into the sort of interaction that EY has with its clients and what sort of skills and tasks are entailed on a similar project. I also believe I developed more networking skills by talking to many different people at all levels in the company
The Company
The programme was structured so that the first day we were introduced to Tax and Assurance with many talks from people who work at different levels in the company which gave us a lot of information in one go! And the next day was more interactive as we worked on client case studies
The atmosphere on the programme and the company as a whole was very encouraging as you really feel that EY cares a lot about its people
As it was only two days there wasn't much personal development as such but they did consider our expectations of the programme at the beginning and whether they had been met at the end and also gave us information on our potential next steps if we were considering a summer internship with EY
It was difficult to decide what it would be like to have a full time role because we were only there for two days, however the client case study gave some insight into the sort of work it entails. But when speaking to associates they were quite vague as to what their day to day work entails making it hard to know what a position in tax and assurance would entail if we had a full position
The company culture was evidently clear within the company as it was easy to tell that EY invest in their people, everyone I spoke to spoke highly of the company culture and their experience at EY
I think 2 days were not enough if you are trying to decide your future career path but the programme gave a lot of information about the financial and professional service industry which was very useful for people who have little knowledge on it to begin with, the programme highlights the various divisions within tax and Assurance but didn't help me decide which summer internship to apply for. I also wish some information was given on the transaction and advisory service lines as this is now something I'm considering.
Everything Else
Opportunities were provided at lunch and dinner on the first day to network with several people that have different responsibilities in the company, EY took us out for dinner which gave us an opportunity to talk to the staff in a more relaxed environment
Everyone was approachable and friendly and the networking opportunities gave me a better understanding of tax and assurance and help me decide which service line I would consider for the summer internship. I have been able to connect with some of the people I spoke to after the programme which will help me should I have any queries in the future
Going out for dinner showed us that EY considers its employees outside of the working environment, although not much was mentioned specifically about what other activities employees are involved in outside of work
I would recommend this programme to anyone who has no idea about the business/financial industry and wants more information to help them with deciding their career paths and also for anyone wanting to make a step towards a potential career with EY
