About You
The Discover EY programme was very good with both days being very structured. The first day allowed us to gain a detailed insight into both Tax and Assurance with current employees speaking to us also. The second day allowed us to do a client excerise to understand the type of work a graduate does on a daily basis which was good as it felt like you were a graduate yourself. We also got the opportunity to network on both days.
I did feel valued with throughout my time on the progamme with the staff being very helpful and approachable. We also got to speak to various employees ranging from 3 years in the firm from graduating to very senior positions in the firm which gave us a detailed insight. They also took us to a networking dinner and we also had a networking lunch which allowed us to ask any questions we had about the firm and life there.
I recieved a lot of guidance and support during the insight with Justin willing to answer any questions that we had. With the client excerise on day two we recieved two information packs which clearly outlined the task we had to do and the way we had to approach it which was a big help. Also, with the second day we had a mentor when working on our excerises to ensure that we were on the right track and help with the presentations.
The information and skills gained will assist immensely with us having the opportunity to improve our analytical and presentation skills. We also got to understand how to develop client relations through participating in a client meeting where we asked questions in order to assist our presentations. Also, we got detailed information on the next steps available and exactly what we need to do in order to get there and the various options available to us.
The Company
The insight was very structued with there being a clear outline on how the programme was going to be run on both days. We also recieved the presentation handouts, a notepad which helped assist us in making key notes and ensuring that we had all the information available. The times were also kept to with the breaks being clearly higlighted throughout the day.
The atmosphere was very good during the insight as we were surrounded by people who were of a similar academic background (1st year university students). We also got the opportunity to understand more about each other through various activites and also got to understand each other's strenghts and weaknesses. This helped when doing our client excersies and allowed us to work as a team to our potential.
The firm did invest in us through giving us the opportunity to fast-track to a summer internship for those who passed the required benchmark for the 2nd year online tests. Thus, we can now skip the application, online tests and telephone interview and move straight to the assesment centre rather than having to go through that process again (as we had to do this for the Dscover EY programme)
The insight helped immensley in being able to understand this. On the first day we got presentations on both tax and assurance which allowed us to understand how each one works and the differences between the two. We also had the opportunity to speak to current employees through a networking lunch and dinner which allowed us to ask questions to get more information. The client excerise on day two allowed us to understand the type Of work a current graduate does on a daily basis.
The insight did help in understanding the company culture as we were spoken to by a number of current workers at the firm, ranging from those who has just joined to those in very senior positions. Through networking lunches and dinner, and a question and answer panel the ethis and values of the company came out to us and allowed us to understand what EY is all about.
The content was very valuable as going into the insight many of us were unsure of whether we wanted to go into tax or assurance. Through presentations on each given by individuals in those service lines, we got a detailed insight into each, what a typical day is like and the differences between the two. This was also helped by a question and answer panel.
Everything Else
Travel was reimbursed.
There were numerous opportunities for networking on both days with there being a networking lunch and dinner on the first day which allowed us to gain more information about what it is like to work at the firm. On the second day, we got a mentor to assist us with our client excerise and there was also a question and answer panel. The people we networked with ranged from associates to managers.

Yes, this was gained through the networking.
Yes, I would recommend this insight to a friend as it allows you to gain a detailed insight into the firm and its ethos and values. You also gain more information about both tax and assurance which will allow you to make an informed decision on which one to go with. There are also multiple opportunities for networking and also the opportunity for a fast-track for the summer internship which is invaluable.
