About You
The programme was insightful. I learnt about the numerous business lines and various opportunities the firm offers. There were a number of opportunities to network and ask questions that have now helped me determine the areas I am most interested in pursuing. I also enjoyed the second day of activities, as it was a chance to put some of the information given the previous day into practice.
It was constantly evident that the firm was interested in all of the students on the program. Not only did a number of Partners of the firm take time out to present and network with us, the program organisers were always available and interested to answer any questions. Employees were always happy to offer their details for any further questions and to keep in contact.
Organisers were always at hand to answer any questions. The program was extremely well planned and everyone was aware of what was happening and when. Any queries were always answered immediately and with interest. Current graduates and other employees were always willing to answer questions and offer guidance and support.
The Company
A small group meant everyone had the chance to get to know each other so there was a good rapport between all. Everyone was eager and excited to learn about the firm which created a comfortable atmosphere to ask necessary questions. Spending time with like minded students was a good opportunity to get an idea of the kind of people who could be colleagues in the near future.
There was a full day of employee led talks. This gave us all the chance to learn more about the firms business and the different areas and roles. This also allowed us to learn about day to day life at the firm and career progression. This was also an opportunity to develop our understanding of where we may fit into the firm. The second day included a personality task which helped us understand our working styles. The case study gave us a chance to further understand how we work and what projects at EY could be like.
Hearing from so many members of staff gave a good insight into what life is like at the firm. Networking with employees of the firm further gave an opportunity to gain an understanding of what working at the firm would be like. The greatest chance to help understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the firm came from the case study, as we had a task, deadline and client meetings to attend.
Each speaker allowed me to develop how strong the people culture of EY is. This came through in both their presentations and in the advice they gave. Furthermore the insight helped in developing my understanding of the company culture as I had the chance to see how teams are expected to approach projects and said approach is purely client focused.
Being able to have access to so much information and real life experience of what the average day is like in the firm for so many different business lines was extremely valuable in helping me decide on my future career path. Also being given the chance to ask and have answered so many questions I previously had has also helped me with my career plans.
Everything Else
Hotel accommodation was arranged and available free of charge for anyone who would have had a journey time greater than two hours, if they were not to stay in the accommodation provided. The hotel provided was a 4* hotel less than a fifteen minute walk from the office. Travel expenses were reimbursed, up to a certain amount, but this did not include taxis.
Networking was a key part of the program. There were many opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the firm including a dinner with employees on the first evening of the program. During the three course meal, employees rotated between table which gave is the chance to network and meet three employees of the firm. After the meal we were able to network with any other employees we were yet to meet. We also had networking sessions over lunch and breaks throughout the program during which we met and network with employees currently on industrial placements or graduate schemes.
I would definitely recommend this insight program to a friend as, although only two days, I feel I was given the opportunity to learn so much about EY as a firm and its culture and vision. I also have now got a proper understanding of all the work the firm does and the many different business lines and roles throughout the firm. Additionally, being given the opportunity to fast track my summer internship application is an invaluable opportunity.
