    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • It was fantastic to have many sessions to experience different divisions within Barclays. I would say this insight has been extremenly helpful and enjoyable to me. The work load has not been much, and the process of learning in real workplace has been fun to me. In general, it is a unforgettable expeience but it has been a bit tiring. However, the tiredness should not be a big problem overall, as it was only a week and I assume that is how working is like.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • I felt extremenly valued by staff in Barclays. This is because we have been given a lot of talks from seniors, and the talks have been really detailed and well-prepared. Apart from that, the staff have been extremely patient and helpful in the Q&A sessions, netwroking event and work shadowing events. I felt very welcomed to ask questions and chat with them. More importantly, I think the HR department has done a lot in ensuring us having enough opporunities to explore in Barclays.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • A lot! I could receive support and guidance from almost every session I had in Baclays. Based on an accident I had in Barckays, I fainted during a visit on the 17th floor. Then the staff immediately called the first aider and ambulance for me, and they got me lots of water and food too. The staff kept asking how I was feeling and giving me lots of help even though I was feeling much better later on.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I think it will be the Agile way of working. That is a methodlogy that I have never heard of. After reviewing how this has been adpoted in Barclays, I will definitely conduct more reseach on this field, and see whether it could be applicable for my future report. More importantly, the most significant thing I have learnt would be how non-technical and technical roles can be combined into one. This information is extremely helpful for me as I would know what courses I should choose in the future.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • I think in general, it was very structured. Although some sessions went over time, the staff immediately managed to rearrange the sessions and make amendments. We were very well informed about what was going on in a specific period or within the day. The Double Detsch app has been very, very helpful for my own time management.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • In general, it was good and well-organised. Although we were organised to sit in a room for most of the sessions, the atmosphere was good for the talks to take place. There were quite a lot of different sessions such as work shawdowing, and these were very fun to me. In general, I would prefer to have more exploration session in the offices or work shadowing sessions, so that I could stay more focused during the sessions.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • I don't think there has been much of the personal traning and development for a specific role. However, I think the company accomplished this process by sharing information about Barclays in the talks, work shawdowing sessions and others. One thing that I think the company has done quite well was they tried to help us to build up our network.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • This insight has been extremenly useful in helping us to find out what the roles would be like in Barclays. This is because there were loads of sessions about what the roles in Technology are. Other than that, the insight gave us work shadowing sessions with staff in specific roles too, and being told by the staff within the company was very helpful.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • A lot. The exploration and explanation of the business' cultures have been carried out in more than one session. As I remembered, there was one section when staff came in and talked through how the cultures are valued and carried out within the business. Their explanation has been very engaging because we could ask them questions immediately in the Q&A session.

  • 10. How valuable was the content in helping you to decide on your future career path?
  • Everyday has been very different for me. I think the most useful session was the work shawdowing session. I got told by how staff felt in their roles, and their daily lifes and so forth. It was engaging in a way that their explanation to my question was all based on real experience. They helped me to understand some specific areas which I have not heard from the talks.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • Yes, there was a lot! There was a specific networking evening. Other than that, we got the chances to chat with the exployees during the work shawdowing, talk session and Q&A sessions too. In general, I would say there were lots of opportunities to talk to other employees in the company.

    5/5
