About You
The two days at EY were really insightful and informative. I enjoyed attending the talks and networking events on the first day, and particularly enjoyed the more interactive nature of the second; working through the case study under time pressure, applying what we had learnt the day before and giving a presentation to the other attendees was indeed very fun. EY took every care to make sure we were well looked after and well fed.
EY ensured that every person we spoke to during networking or during the case study work had a vested interest in our potential to be workers at EY. We were never made to feel like we were in the way or a burden, but rather that we were the next generation with the skills to fill the boots of the EY employees we spoke to.
The first day we received a lot of guidance regarding Tax and Assurance at EY; we networked and were given talks by people all over the EY system. During these talks we were able to ask any questions that we required to and were given in depth answers in most cases. The second day each team had a mentor for their case study who worked at EY, allowing us direct support for the work we had to do.
I would say my team working, communication, presentation and problem solving skills were the main skills that were developed during the two days; all of which will be instrumental in future careers and throughout my degree. The information received will also allow me to pursue a future career in EY knowing exactly what I am getting myself in for as well as allowing me comparisons with other companies that may offer me work.
The Company
I would say the two days could not have run more smoothly. The team coordinating stuck to the times fairly well and there were no issues that meant we were waiting around or having to change from the initial plans. I would also say there is nothing else I feel could have been added to the two days although if it were possible to actually experience some of the work undertaken at EY that may be of use.
I felt the atmosphere was very welcoming and warm. All the EY employees were very friendly and answered any questions that we had. All attendees to the programme also made a considerable effort to get on with each other and work well in the team case studies on the second day.
I think this wasn't the main focus of this programme; I feel that it was more about allowing the attendees to find out about EY and tax and assurance itself. The case study work on the second day did however help the development of many skills that would be relevant to working at EY.
The two days were very informative with regard to this. Talking to people within the firm and hearing what they had to say during the talks was helpful, however I don't necessarily feel like I fully know what people in Tax and Assurance do on a day to day basis from these two days.
I think the programme was very good for this. The atmosphere during the two days was very warm and all employees showed respect for us and clearly wanted to help inform our decision. All employees seemed motivated and driven as representatives of the company, With respect to women in business and diversity, it was clear that this was something focused on at EY.
Valuable. I have now confirmed that I prefer Tax to Assurance and have gleaned a better idea of where I would be suited in EY. I also think the days confirmed that I would be suited for this role in future. Talking to the partners also showed that there is many opportunities for changing your role in EY; there is no limitation to where you can end up, something I find very valuable about EY.
Everything Else
We were not paid for the two days which is perfectly reasonable as we did not undertake any work for EY. All travel expenses, minus taxis, are to be reimbursed. EY also provided accommodation for me as I lived over two hours away from London which was ideal. All food was provided, including a three course meal at Jamie's Italian, so no food expenses were needed to be claimed.
Yes. The first day consisted of meeting lots of people from varying levels of the firm; graduates to partners, Many questions could be asked at these talks. A networking lunch allowed us time to talk to graduates, whilst a networking dinner allowed us to meet all sorts of different employees from the firm,
The networking lunch and three course dinner at Jamie's Italian were highly enjoyable. Not only did we get chance to chat to people working at EY to find out about each of their roles, we also got the chance to meet the other people doing the programme and find out about their opinions on EY and tax and assurance.
This wasn't particularly touched on. Many of the employees commented on the large social aspect of the job but not anything in particular. We were told about many of the opportunities to work abroad however across all of the countries EY works within across the globe.
Yes I would. I really enjoyed the experience, especially being in London in a multinational company. I feel more confident having done the presentation and networking, and feel ready to do similar programmes in future. I learnt a lot of information about EY itself and so if a friend was interested in EYI would highly recommend attending. It also made me excited about working at an internship next summer and after university,
