About You
Very enjoyable experience. Coordinators were friendly and organisation was very professional. I felt that I gained a great overview of what the organisation did, and all speakers and staff were very friendly.
We received speakers from the heads of divisions and the head of operations, and interacting and hearing from such important people was very insightful, and left us feeling valued. Furthermore it was obvious that lots of preparation had gone into the graduate presentations, several of whom were more than willing to give further advice.
We received a great deal of support throughout the week, asking questions was encouraged and presentations were very thorough. Once more I would like to reiterate how professional the delivery was, and the seamless flow throughout the day despite engaging in a number of different activities in different departments.
I felt that the skills we focused on were somewhat useful, although some of them seemed rather gimmicky, for example an "elevator pitch." There was a large focus on "networking" for the sake of it, rather than developing meaningful relationships.
The Company
Very well structured, at no point was there a failure for a speaker to arrive on time, and despite 5 or 6 activities per day in different departments the organisation was superb.
Very positive, although there was a certain degree of p-laying to what people thought the organizers wanted to hear, although this is to be expected on a competitive internship.
The company was well invested in us, and as previously stated we saw a number of speakers who ranged in seniority up the the heads of departments. We had training in presentation skills and networking, although as one would expect given the short time span these were not very in depth.
I felt I gained a great insight into the ways different departments function and what most people would do on a day to day basis.the only area in which the internship fell short for me was lifestyle, as someone who had never been to London before I wanted to gain an insight of the kind of life a graduate could expect to lead. Having said this I did talk to graduates about it and to a certain extent lived it myself, which was very informative.
There was a lot of emphasis on the Barclay's "RISES" values, but not much else. I would have liked to have seen more of the social aspect of the workplace, if there was one.
