  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager is based in a different location to myself and I usually travel 1/2 days a week running assessment centres for the Graduate scheme. We have weekly catch up meetings where we discuss the upcoming week. Our team also try to see each other face to face every 2 weeks so that we can stay connected in both a professional and personal level. My manager has given me continued support and advice when trying to utilize my year.

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • As I work in the recruitment department, my team has busy season between October- March this could mean being out of the office 3 days a week and the other days are spent doing follow up work and preparation for the next week. Although it was be a stressful time, it was also rewarding as there is no better feeling than knowing you have completed all the tasks on your ToDo list. My team and Task Manager also offered continued support and would take on certain tasks which I wouldn't be able to while out of the office.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • For my role I have been given a large amount of responsibility, when traveling to different locations to run assessment centres, I am the point of contact for clients, assessors and candidates. As this will be a persons first impression of IBM, it was my responsibility to make sure it was positive and use any feedback to improve the service for future candidates.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • I am currently studying a Business Management and HR degree and throughout my placement in IBM, I receive regular HR updates and the strategy that IBM are using. I then have quarterly HR meetings where different locations with attend an online meeting to talk about whats new. I also receive regular Recruitment team calls and have also been able to attend diversity work shops. All the training and opportunities supplied have allowed me to see where I would like to take my Degree.
