About You
Informative but little responsibility given during the week. I have done other spring weeks where I actually felt as if I was an employee of the organisation.
Felt valued but it was as if we were 'guests' more than anything.
those which ran it was always happy to help
Degree isn't construction related
The Company
Had a schedule which we kept to
Good, people from various backgrounds who all got on
Practice assessment centre, CV skills, mock interview
Only half a day shadowing and a lot of that involved walking around instead of actually watching the employee execute their role.
The culture at Mace is good.
Confirmed construction for me, could have easily swung someone else the other way though.
Everything Else
Only reimbursed expenses travelling to site and back. If I had not had a place in London to stay for free this week would have been highly costly.
Yes
Good, had various presentations on roles and were able to ask questions after. Was an opportunity to have lunch with current employees but that was interrupted by an unforeseen fire alarm.
Looks like all employees have a good social life
Yes, if you have a passion for construction and am willing to take the financial hit. I attended other spring weeks at larger organisations where I felt a lot more immersed in the business (given own laptop, work, email etc). As well as this I was reimbursed fully, paid and progressed to a partner interview for a summer internship the following year. It all depends on whether you are completely set on the industry or not. If you are on the fence I would say there are better opportunities out there but in turn this comes with increased competition.
