About You
The insight week was very enjoyable t be a part of. It was very well organised and a good mixture of practical learning and presentations. The first day was all presentations however so this wasn't as enjoyable as other days. It was a fun place to work in the special access we get given on sites make it a special experience. I achieved the aims i wanted to by the end of the week so this made it fun, interesting and very enjoyable to be a part of.
The reception was very welcoming and instantly i knew it was a good company to work for. We mixed with people who are just a few years older than us, and also much more senior people within the business. W were able to mix with a lot of different people within the business. We were given use of all facilities within the company and also were given a free lunch in the canteen each day.
The week was run by a very well, friendly and organised team and this made it possible to ask question whenever I needed. We were encouraged to ask questions at every opportunity and this really helped with the understanding of the business and roles within. The last day was a application, CV and interview practice session. This was really useful as we were given the guidance to apply for this job in particular and will be useful for many other jobs.
In terms of my degree i don't think this benefitted as i do not do a construction specific degree, as i do geography. However, interns of my understanding of the industry and the roles within I am now certain this is what i wish to do once I finish university. this was my main aim to figure out at the start of the week and this has been fulfilled.
The Company
The week was very well structures-we were never in a situation where we were unsure of what we should be doing or didn't have anything to do. In the lead up to the week we were given many emails explaining what we would be doing and these were stuck to well throughout so there were no surprises. We were also told what time we should be in and if we need to bring anything at the end of each day in preparation for the next.
Everyone apart of the insight week was very enthusiastic and exited to be there. This meant the working environment was good to be a part of. The staff were very excited to get their points of the business across and sold the company well. The days were a good length so people weren't too tired which kept the atmosphere lively and still interesting to be involved in.
The last day was an invaluable workshop of CV, application and interview skills. This is very useful in applying to mace and also any further jobs we may be thinking of. This was great for personal development. Also, we undertook self assessment form which made us think and highlight how we have developed after taking part in the week.
As the presentations were given by people working in the firm, we got first had evidence of what day to day life would be like. The employees were all willing to answer any questions and help us with anything we needed. This really gave us a good idea of what the working environment is like there and what it is like to work.
The company are very keen on their aims and these were delivered through each presentation. This culture and objectives are presented throughout each employee in their daily action and proudness of the company. Also, the main one, Safety first, second nature was advertised extremely a lot on each site work.
The days consisted of site visits and presentations from people in various roles within the company. This was extremely useful and helped me decide that this is the company i wish to apply for, and particularly more important that this is the industry I wish to be in. This was useful to know as i do not do a construction specific degree.
Everything Else
We were re-imbursed all site visit. This was easy, just totalled up how much we spent and then we had to provide a receipt. The money was paid straight into our bank accounts with no problems or other questions asked. We were encourage to do this as it got quite expensive throughout the week.
