About You
I enjoyed being exposed to people from the various technology teams, and I enjoyed some of the presentations. The days were very busy in terms of a packed schedule, so it is quite a long and tiring experience.
They made you feel very welcome and appreciative of your presence. All staff were very friendly.
Guidance and support is not really relevant during the two day insight programme as you are presented with lots of information. You are given support for applying for a summer internship though.
There was a reasonably useful presentation skills session, as well as interview tips.
The Company
The insight was structured well in terms of having a lot of things to do, however on the first day some of the presentations felt a little unecessary and the first day did drag on.
Very friendly, informative and professional atmosphere.
There were sessions that worked on presentation and interview skills. There was no role specific training (naturally), and it is hard to say that Deloitte "invested" in us. The experience was more for us to understand Deloitte more and whether we wanted to pursue technology roles further.
Due to limited time it was difficult to achieve this. You got to speak to various employees about their role/day but even so in terms of a full time role the insight was limited. Given the time restraints I would say that Deloitte made a good effort.
Understanding the culture was hard to achieve because we did not get to visit teams in their office environment and speak to many employees on an intimate level. We visited the Deloitte Digital and got a feel for the more relaxed culture they have there, but it was ultimately limited.
Some of the presentations were a little bit irrelevant for us in terms of helping to decide on a career path. In terms of a decided career path the insight did not help me personally, however it did help to show me what I should not pursue. The insight is not long enough nor extensive enough to really inspire you to choose a role, however it does help to clarify things.
Everything Else
My travel expenses were paid for, as well as being provided one night's accommodation at a very nice London hotel, with an evening meal and breakfast provided. Lunch was provided on both days, and there was an endless supply of tea and coffee throughout the days.
Despite the short time frame there was some degree of networking, most notably during the evening meal where employees sat with us. There was very little informal networking opportunities during the day however, because they were mostly structured around presentations and activities.
Networking and social opportunities were limited due to the short duration of the insight programme, however there was a very nice evening meal at a hotel attended by various Deloitte employees of junior level which allowed for a comfortable atmosphere to chat.
Yes I did but this was mainly through talking to the employees at the meal and not during the programme. The programme does not dwell on this aspect too much as it is focused on increasing our understanding of what Deloitte's Technology division does.
Yes, if you want to learn more about technology roles at Deloitte, I would recommend this.
