Spring into Deloitte - Insight Review

I enjoyed the insight very much, getting the chance to meet like-minded students from a wide range of subjects and universities. The insight was very thorough and had always kept us occupied with different case studies and talks which not only brought us together but gave us a chance to see further into the different fields of tax, audit and risk.

During the two days I felt valued by Deloitte. They had put a lot of effort in to keep us occupied throughout the insight with few break times. Also, they had brought in a wide range of employees from different fields which showed they wanted us to learn more about each. They also reiterated how important it was that Deloitte was a good fit for us and had made sure to answer all questions we had.

Deloitte staff who ran the event and had come in were on hand to answer all questions we had, no matter what they were, including recent graduates which we could relate to more. They were very helpful in guiding us through the different routes we could take and about what happens next after the insight was over.

Deloitte provided us with a lot of information about how to progress further to come to the summer scheme, which if successful could turn into a graduate scheme position. They were on hand to assist us with out choices and provide advice about what options we had available. This gave me a good idea of what I could do in the future and has made things more clear.

Deloitte had structured the insight very well, keeping us occupied throughout the two days. We began with an ice-breaker followed by talks from the partners and outside staff and engaged in case studies throughout. Also, even in our spare time in the evening they had organised a dinner joined by deloitte employees, giving us an opportunity to engage and network. We were also able to do a mock interview and receive feedback to help us in future interviews, and much more.

The deloitte staff, even those not involved in the event, were very helpful and friendly during our insight, allowing us to see the work environment on a day-to-day basis. Students were also very excited and engaged throughout: there was no time for anything else. Overall the atmosphere was welcoming and it showed they wanted us to feel relaxed.

Deloitte invested in to our personal development and training with a variety of group tasks with different people, improving my interaction and communication skills. They also held a talk of emotional intelligence which was insightful. We also got to have a mock interview which was great practise for a summer scheme interview.

With three different fields and many different sub-fields within this, it was difficult for Deloitte to show us what it would be like to have a full time role as each one was different. However, we received detailed talks from each field and they answered our questions about the different fields not included, which helped me understand. This was further enhanced by the different case studies.

The company culture was evident throughout and was consistent across the board, from partner to graduate. Each told us the same thing: of a relaxed culture (no personal desks etc.) where there is a real community feel (as seen by events/days out). Dress-down Fridays and the opportunity of flexible hours also showed Deloitte as a comfortable and good place to work.

The content of the day allowed me to consider options I hadn't thought of prior to the insight and also rule out ones which I found to not be of my taste. Overall, I now have a better feel of my future career path and the steps I can take to achieve a successful one, with Deloitte but also in general.

Deloitte were able to reimburse travel expenses up to a maximum of £50.

Deloitte were very good in bringing in different members of staff from different fields, including talks from partners, graduates and those from different fields. We also had the opportunity of a dinner where we were joined by two staff per table, giving us a great opportunity to talk and ask questions freely off the record.

The networking opportunities were great throughout, of which we could also take business cards for future contact and questions. Social event opportunities were limited during the insight due to how busy it was, however there was some time to socialise with the other students during the insight and in our break times when they came.

Employees from each field told us about what they get involved in in their spare time, but also about the community events Deloitte run for charity which they are involved in. Employees also, with flexible hours, are able to leave early providing the work is done, to spend time with their families, showing a considerate side of Deloitte as a company.

I would thoroughly recommend this insight to a friend as a great way to find out more about the company and also the options available in each field, should they be interested. There is also the opportunity to get fast-tracked to the summer scheme in selected fields, which is a great opportunity to take in 2nd year.
