The Role
I have thoroughly enjoyed my placement so far, as I have been given opportunity to take responsibility over my own work and have fitted well within the team.
I have felt very valued by my colleagues as the work that I have done has been very useful for a number of people. I have also had positive feedback on work I have completed
For the most part I have been given good support, both by Senior members of the team and also my line manager, however some constructive comments on work I have done would have also been beneficial to my development - which I have not received.
I have always had work to do, either work that has been given to me to complete, or given the responsibility to create my own work. There have been a number of periods where I have been extremely busy, however this has been offset by a few occasions where the workload has slowed.
I have been given a lot of responsibility during my placement, especially with high level work that I have done.
Although my placement hasn't quite aligned to my degree, as my degree is more technical focused, whereas I have been working in Asset Management - which is client focused. I have been able to develop useful skills in my analysis, management, business practice, as well as develop my understanding of the industry, These are things that I will find useful for finishing my degree, however the main advantage to developing these skills on a placement will be once I am working after my degree.
The Company
The general atmosphere in the office has been good. People are friendly and there have been times to get to know colleagues more, however the team can also be very work focused too, which has been good to develop my work ethic.
The company I have been working for is very well set up for placements as it is similar to their graduate Scheme. However I have been the first placement that my team has had, and so there have been some bumps along the way.
I have been able to do some training, however there has been fairly little in comparison to some other placements. This is because the company focuses more training and development into their graduate scheme, which I hope to join after graduating.

Very, as I am hoping to join the graduate scheme once I have graduated. The company has a fast track into this scheme for those who have done a placement for the company. The graduate scheme is very well set up, with a focus on getting you to a Chartership level.
The Culture
As most of the placement students work separately from one another in different teams there has been fairly little social gatherings outside of work. Although we have had a few and been able to get to know each other well.
I have been based on Birmingham, so things have been fairly inexpensive. Living costs in the area are not abnormally high.
Working in a major city has its perks as there is always something to do outside of work.
