    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • The internship was very enjoyable. I worked in a team, that although were very busy at lot of the time, always found time to support me and genuinely very nice people. I fitted in well with my teams culture and thought I made a valuable contribution to the teams work. Most employees I spoke to were more than happy to give up some of their time The other interns were all very friendly and made the experience very enjoyable.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • The work I did was valued by my colleagues, however its important to realise you are only working there for a comparatively short period of time. 10 weeks is not enough to add significant value to your team. They were however all very supportive and wanted me to be part of the team, I attended all the team meeting, was invited to calls. They made a real effort to include in all of the teams activities

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My manager were very happy to help with all issues. I had one-to-ones with my manager twice a week where we discussed my objectives, aims and any concerns I had. I also had some meetings with HR recruitment who were very supportive in more general questions I had. Due to the fact the internship was over the summer, a lot of my team were away for different part. They always made sure I had enough work to do and a member of my team was looking after me.

    4/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • This varied a lot. Some days when I had been given lots of work to do, I would be at my desk all day. However on others I would be relatively free and able to pursue other tasks such as shadowing and overviews with different people. I feel that I could have undertaken more work, however being in the team I was in, the work was quite complex and difficult to come in with much prior knowledge.

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given a fair amount of responsibility. I worked on a project that was eventually used by my team, I created documents that were eventually sent to clients. So overall I feel I was given a very good amount of responsibility. The ability to connect with anyone in the company, present to them and network is a big responsibility to have.

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • The skills I developed during my internship benefitted me a lot afterwards. I learnt good time management skills and keep a structured day. Also my networking skills were greatly improved, I developed the ability to talk to lots of different people and maintain relationships. This proved to be very useful when going back to university.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • It was a calm atmosphere. Although everyone in my team were quite busy a lot of the time, the general atmosphere was very relaxed. Everyone was very friendly and happy to help. Lots of the time, my team were on the phone, or in meetings so everyone was very concentrated.

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The overall internship was extremely well organised. We had lots of internship events spread out throught the course of the 10 weeks. All our managers were informed by HR Recuitement of their roles, and we were encourgaged to set up progress check meetings quite often. There were lots of presentations by senior manager and global speaker series with the CEO.

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The firm invested a lot of time and effort in our own personal training and development. We had mandoratory training quite regulary, including code of conduct and compliance. We were always strongly encouraged to go more training exererices. At the beginning of the internship, we had a few days of specific line of business training to prepare us for the 10 weeks ahead.

    Company Parties/Events

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • If I get the offer to work as a full time analyst after my internship, I will definitely consider joining JPMC, as the programme they offer is extremely interesting and allows a wide spread of skills to be gained.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • The participation between interns was excellent, from out of business activities, to activities, knowledge shares within the company.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • The cost of living was very reasonable in this area. In comparison other interns in London pay a lot more in rent and living expenses. In bournemouth you are very close to the beach which is great on the weekends. All of the interns knew eachother and we spent a lot of time socialising together. There are lots of places to eat and go out in bournemouth and the surrounding area.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • The nighlife quality was not too good, the clubs aren't good, however it is always full of people there. But its okay to go out for few drinks.

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yes, there has been a number of activities outside of work, and it was well communicated to everyone. There were some sports clubs too along with some charity activities.
