About You
The programme was really enjoyable, each day provided different opportunities and insights into the different sectors within the bank. The week started with some icebreaker tasks in order to get to know the other interns, as well as welcome drinks on the first evening. Throughout the week the HR team were really friendly and made you feel welcome to ensure you were having an enjoyable time at Nomura.
Felt very valued throughout the week, with networking events the employees at Nomura were always happy to chat you about their role within the bank and pass on an email address for any further questions you had. Completing the Dragons Den presentations helped to make me feel valued as we presented our pitches to four senior employees within the company and received valuable feedback from them.
Received lots of guidance and support throughout my time there. All interns were looked after by the same HR members throughout the week, allowing us to get to know them well and create a real bond. I always felt like I could ask them any questions I had, and they were always very helpful in explaining the outline of the day and what was expected of us. Additionally networking events also provided support in specific areas within the bank that we were interested in.
We were able to take part in a CV and cover letter skills workshop in our time at the company. This provided very useful tips and tricks for when we are applying to jobs in the future. Additionally we had a workshop on case study assessments which many banks use during their interview stage. This provided invaluable help in how to tackle these case studies and enabled us to understand what they were looking for in candidates. Both of these workshops will greatly assist me in future job applications.
The Company
The week was packed full of workshops, activities, talks and Q&A panels. We received a timetable at the start of the week that was consistent throughout our time there. This allowed us to know what to expect each day and prepare any questions we may want to ask to specific panels. The time was well filled with sufficient breaks, but I never felt as though we had nothing to do. We were kept busy in a great way, allowing us to learn as much as possible in the short amount of time.
There was a great atmosphere throughout the week. The HR team went to great efforts to make sure that the interns bonded well at the start of the week and we had a chance to get to know everyone. We were busy throughout the week but never felt overworked or too pressured. Overall the week had a good balance of fun while learning lots of new information about the company and the industry as a whole.
Had workshops to develop personal skills and to learn about our emotions. It was a good experience that allowed us to test out our skills and learn on how to improve them. Additionally, the CV and cover letter skills workshop was a great way to learn tips and tricks for our CVs. HR answered personal questions about which work experience to prioritise, as well as talking us through the general things that employees would be looking for on our CV.
We were given two work shadowing slots in our time there. These provided invaluable experience to be able to talk to en employee of the company on a much more personal level. They were often one employee to two interns. This opportunity was a great experience to really understand the day to day tasks of workers and what it is like to work for the company. It provided a great insight and was very valuable.
Work shadowing provided a great opportunity to understand the culture. As well as this, just being in the building for four days further allowed us to really understand the atmosphere that was in the building and what the company is like to work for. Additionally networking events and work shadowing further allowed us to understand the culture of the company and the opportunities that workers were given, such as traveling and moving offices to one of their other locations abroad.
Was extremely valuable. We were given talks and Q&A panels on all major different parts of the company. As well as this we were able to express an area we were interested in and then complete work shadowing in this area. This allowed us to further understand a specific part of the bank and what it would be like to work in that sector. Additionally guidance was given to us throughout the week about how the sectors differed and specific skills that often benefit a specific role.
Everything Else
There were multiple opportunities to network. Networking drinks were held a week before the programme started to allow us to meet other interns, graduates and employees at the company. A networking lunch was also held on the first day in which many workers from all around the company came down to eat lunch with us and discuss their roles within the bank. This allowed us to talk specifically to people in sectors we were interested in.
There were really good, although sometimes the spaces were quite small. But overall it was a great way to talk to people and network.
Yes, many employees talks to us about organised events in the summer on the terrace the company has, as well as use of the gym.
This insight is definitely very valuable if interested in this sector or industry. It was an enjoyable week with a great atmosphere throughout my time there. There was lots of informations and opportunities to learn about the company and what it would be like working for them. Additionally the networking events provided a great experience to make contacts within the industry and ask more specific questions you may have.
