The Role
I really enjoyed my time here, there is certainly an element of challenege, and you can extend projects as much as you like to provide the level of work you're comfortable with. I think perhaps if I had been more interested in the actual content of the job role, then I would have enjoyed it even more.
I felt like by the end of the placement I had made some very postive relationships, but they were very much still work colleagues. I felt valued, but not to the point of the people I work with feeling like family.
All the support I wanted was given, however some of the time tracking people down in the first place to ask was very time consuming.
Towards the end of my placement I found I'd completed all my main tasks, and there wasn't much else to do that really got me interested, as the tasks were just bits and bobs here and there, but before that point the work balance was very good.
Not a huge amount, but I contributed to important projects with the managers, so my say and input had some level of responisibility. I think when running a company like Rolls-Royce though, it is probably best not to give too much responsibility to interns, something going wrong can cost easily over £50,000.
I gained a massive amount of life experince from this, and think thats the main thign I got out of this placement. I think rather than helping my studies, the placement has complimented them, allowing me to be more well rounded as an individual.
The Company
There was a lot of banter, as I was on the shop floor, but that was okay with me, infact I quite enjoyed it. Sometimes people tended to actively avoid work for too long though, and could be a tad distracting.
I don't think there was a grand plan for me when I started, and I did have to remind my managers of dealines for sorting out my development record, and often go looking for jobs, rather than be given them. The scheme is set up very well though, so despite that things went fairly smoothly, and I felt like I knew what I was meant to be doing most of the time.
The company let me do lots of e-learning courses, as well as let me gain a qualification in lean manufacturing. Everyone had time for you to ask questions, and learning was encouraged at all times. I think the only improvement would be more formalized opportunities.

Very, working there for an internship helps massively with landing a job there later, and the company is incredible as a whole. I am not sure however manufacturing is the right career path for me, but I won't be put off applying to Rolls-Royce for other roles in the slightest.
The Culture
The interns are all very close, and there are loads of us!
I stayed at home, so it was very cheap.
I tended to go out in Nottingham, which I love.
Interns organized lots of events, and the company organized a few too, so there were a good selection yes, i.e. football tournament, loads of pub lunches and nights out.
