The Role
The Company
A very healthy mix. Usually very quiet, which helps with long-term focus when you need it. But you never feel like you can't lift your head up from your keyboard to have a laugh with someone for a while. Everybody has time for you whether it's an important question or not, and does their best to make working with each other not a chore.
You can tell Cognito are keen on keeping interns happy. Communication and monitoring, before and during, were great, and I never felt like I was wasting my time or filling out some requirement of my course. Everything I worked on was a real contribution to something that any other senior team-member would've also worked on. At times I felt that I had been treated like a permanent employee for so long that people had forgotten I was still a student.
While I never required any off-site training, I was always included and listened to at key points when big technological changes were made, prepared for and discussed. No "he's only around for another month so don't worry if he doesn't keep up with what I'm about to say" mentality. I felt invested in to the same extent as any other permanent employee, to the point of being included in several projects further to the reach of the dev team I was usually in.

Assuming I'm welcome back after uni I'd be very keen to keep that door open for now. It's not in the worst location and the people and office make for a very nice environment. They are in a significant technological transitional period recently, making for a huge scope for trying out and learning new things.
The Culture
I feel lucky to get on with everybody in a working friendship context but there isn't much scope to go beyond that. Depending on your personality this is either ideal or a complete turn-off. Making good relationships with the other new students in the other teams early on can give you a great social head-start.
Considering it's not a uni town, cheap short-term tenancies can be hard to find.
