About You
I found the week to be an enormously positive experience and would thoroughly recommend it. I learnt a great deal about how the bank operates and the different roles within it. I also developed a valuable network of not only BAML employees, but also students from a range of geographic and academic backgrounds.
The value that BAML attributes to spring insight interns is best exemplified by the people that gave us their time. It was patent that all speakers had taken time to prepare a well-structured and informative presentation. Furthermore, at all networking events we met employees from a breadth of divisions and seniority levels. All were very happy to interact with us on a personal basis.
Throughout the week, both soft and hard skill development sessions were put on. These included a presentation skills session and an M&A case study that exposed us to the key company valuation methods. We also received a great deal of interview advice from the recruiters themselves.
I believe the soft skills I developed are especially relevant here, e.g. presentation, interview and networking skills. These are skills that can be applied to many areas of life.
The Company
We were presented with a detailed timetable at the beginning of the week, which was followed seamlessly. The timetable was varied, which kept us engaged, and whilst breaks were allocated, we were never left hanging around.
In my opinion, the personalities of the other students on the programme were especially conducive to positive atmosphere. I was met with a group of bright, motivated and interest individuals from a range of geographic and academic backgrounds. I learnt a great deal from and was further motivated by them.
Whilst the programme was only one-week, work shadowing within our preferred divisions and a great deal of networking opportunities gave a valuable insight.
Presentations on specific roles and divisions within the bank and real-world simulations such as trading games and case studies helped towards establishing which role would best suit my interests and skills.
Everything Else
There was a networking breakfast and presentation dedicated solely to this. Opportunities for joining groups within the bank and taking part in pro bono initiatives were discussed in detail.
