    About You

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy the insight?
  • I thoroughly enjoyed the insight. The week had been arranged very well, not a moment was wasted and the experience was incomparable; we were given the opportunity to see and understand the different areas of the business. I met business representatives who varied in seniority which was very interesting and insightful as I had the opportunity to hear about their experience and their career so far.

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued during your time at the company or firm?
  • There is no hierarchy at FIL, which is evident in their culture and with how we were treated as interns. Even very busy and senior individuals gave up their time to talk and get involved with us. Everyone is very well respected and valued. Everyone is very friendly and attentive to questions. It was a real pleasure to be in such a pleasant environment for the week, It is not what you would typically expect from the finance sector in the City of London.

  • 3. How much guidance/support did you receive during the insight?
  • The week did not require much guidance as it was an insight into the business, however, the FIL HR representatives were extremely attentive to any question or problems we had. They were extremely friendly and approachable. No question was deemed silly or left unanswered. Even after the insight, they have kept us informed as to the next stages. At no point have I felt as if I've been left in the dark about any aspect of the whole process.

  • 4. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and information you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • We were heavily assisted in thinking about careers and options during after university. We had the opportunity to develop our networking skills which is so useful. Time was taken to educate to us about interviews, CVs, assessment centres as well some top tips shared on how to stand out. We spoke about the economy and political affairs, which was fantastic for my degree. A lot of the skills I picked up stretch father than just my degree.

    The Company

  • 5. How well structured was the insight?
  • The insight was structured incredibly well. We received a pack on the first day which contained a busy schedule for the week. Every task we did was timed well and enjoyable. One night we enjoyed a curry, we had the opportunity to go onto the London Eye, as well as a fascinating tour of the City of London. We had regular breaks which were great to be able to refresh and helped with the learning experience. I went into the week no knowing a lot about the business, but left incredibly informed.

  • 6. How was the general atmosphere during your insight?
  • The atmosphere was calm and relaxed; it seems like an absolutely amazing place to work! Everyone is nice, friendly and attentive. We had many networking events and fun activities as well as insights into the business. It was an extremely well balanced and enjoyable week, I would not be able to flaw any aspect of the week. Of all the places I have had the opportunity of spending time within, Fidelity is by far the place I aspire to work in the future.

  • 7. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • As mentioned above, we spent time looking at CVs and talking about how to prep and tackle interviews. As well as this, we were encouraged and given lots of time to ask as many questions as possible and to take advantage of the week, I feel that FIL invested a lot of time into us; the group was not very big so it was possible to have every question answered.

  • 8. To what extent did the insight help you to understand what it would be like to have a full time role with the company or firm?
  • The insight greatly helped in understanding what it would be like to have a full time role in FIL. Speaking to fresh graduates, graduates who had been there for a couple of years and individuals who had been there for significant amounts of their careers was great; I got a feel of what different points of a career within FIL would be like.

  • 9. How much did the insight help you in understanding the company culture?
  • It is one thing reading about a culture and getting a feel for the culture first hand. I understood how important the culture of the firm is to deciding whether a firm is a right fit for yo personally. The culture at FIL is fantastic, it is not at all what you expect which was pleasantly surprising. The culture is a huge aspect for what draws me towards the firm.

    Everything Else

  • 11. Were you paid or reimbursed adequately for this experience?
  • Breakfast, snacks, lunches and a couple of dinners was provided as well as lots of drinks! The food was excellent everyday. I reside within London so did not require accommodation, however was reimbursed for my travel expenses. I am aware that individuals who did require accommodation, stayed in very nice accommodation close to the FIL offices.

  • 12. Were there opportunities for networking and meeting other employees of the company or firm?
  • There were many opportunities of networking, which was a personal highlight for me. I had the opportunity to meet many individuals which was great. We had sessions with each business area throughout the week, which was great as I heard about different areas of the business which I had never considered before or knew much about. • 14. Did you find out about activities that employees can get involved in outside of work?
  • We had some time in which all the charity events and activities that the employees can get involved with. As an individual who is keen in charity work, it was great and inspirational to see how much charity FIL carry out quietly around the world. • 15. Would you recommend this insight to a friend?
  • I would 100% recommend this to a friend and have already done so. I feel that individuals who have an interest for finance or more specifically, investment management or individuals who are unsure of what they would like to do, should absolutely apply. The amount I learnt in a week was vast and so interesting.
