The Role
It was really enjoyable, but with all jobs, there are also mundane tasks that need to be done. Overall it was a great placement and excellent learning experience.
In the working environment, you can sense the respect everyone has for one another and the high level of teamwork.
Great guidance and support from my manager, who actively sought out opportunities to make my placement a great learning experience.
Good managable workload throughout the placement. As a summer intern, lots of people will find you to help with jobs so there's always something different around the corner.
As my role maninly involved creating a programme, it was independent work. But when it came to problem solving on the shop floor, I was given responsibility to make changes whilst having the support to make sure I was doing things correctly.
Everything on the placement was completely new so lots of things learnt. Some skills were very specialised but I'm sure they'll come in useful one day
The Company
I arrived during a busy transitional period so everybody was extremely busy. It was a highly productive environment and readily engaging.
Good organisation. I always knew when and where I had to be before my placement began.
Great feel to the company. They want to invest in you and help you reach your full potential as an Engineer. There were lots of presented opportunities.
Flexi Time
Sports and Social Club
Subsidised/Company Gym
National Travel
Thoroughly enjoyed the placement and would be really pleased if an offer was made for the graduate programme.
The Culture
Barnoldswick doesn't have much to offer in terms of a social scene but it's a very pleasant area to stay in.
Accommodation was difficult to find as my stay was only ten weeks. Ended up staying at a bed and breakfast which was expensive as a student. It wouldn't have been cheaper if I was on a placement year, as local contracts normally have a minimum of 6 months.
Not much is available apart from pubs after 6pm.
Not much to get involved in as Barnoldswick doesn't have much to offer.
