    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • It was really enjoyable, but with all jobs, there are also mundane tasks that need to be done. Overall it was a great placement and excellent learning experience.

    4/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • In the working environment, you can sense the respect everyone has for one another and the high level of teamwork.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • Great guidance and support from my manager, who actively sought out opportunities to make my placement a great learning experience.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Good managable workload throughout the placement. As a summer intern, lots of people will find you to help with jobs so there's always something different around the corner.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • As my role maninly involved creating a programme, it was independent work. But when it came to problem solving on the shop floor, I was given responsibility to make changes whilst having the support to make sure I was doing things correctly.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Everything on the placement was completely new so lots of things learnt. Some skills were very specialised but I'm sure they'll come in useful one day

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • I arrived during a busy transitional period so everybody was extremely busy. It was a highly productive environment and readily engaging.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • Good organisation. I always knew when and where I had to be before my placement began.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Great feel to the company. They want to invest in you and help you reach your full potential as an Engineer. There were lots of presented opportunities.

    5/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Flexi Time

    Sports and Social Club

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    National Travel

    5/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • Thoroughly enjoyed the placement and would be really pleased if an offer was made for the graduate programme.

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • Barnoldswick doesn't have much to offer in terms of a social scene but it's a very pleasant area to stay in.

    3/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Accommodation was difficult to find as my stay was only ten weeks. Ended up staying at a bed and breakfast which was expensive as a student. It wouldn't have been cheaper if I was on a placement year, as local contracts normally have a minimum of 6 months.

    3/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Not much is available apart from pubs after 6pm.

    1/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Not much to get involved in as Barnoldswick doesn't have much to offer.
