About You
I enjoyed to learn more about the company and to meet other like-minded people. There was no pressure on us and the company tried everything to makes us feel welcome. The activity on the last day showed us what we would do if we worked in the company and it was fun.
I felt valued from the start before I even arrived in London. Throughout the whole application process, I had a contact person who responded quickly to all my questions. The company provided me with a sufficient amount of information that I felt well prepared. During our stay, we had the chance to get involved and talk to high-ranking employees.
We had many networking opportunities where we could ask all our questions. Employees from different levels talked to us in an informal environment which eased the conversations. Everyone was encouraging and helpful. Now I feel like I have gained a thorough insight of the company and the different career paths.
I gained more confidence in being among business people and made many new contacts. Furthermore, I practiced my presentation and time management skills which will help me at university. Team working is something that will come in use during my studies and in the working life. The case study improved my analytical skills.
The Company
The structure was very clear. On the first day, we received a lot of information about the different areas at the company and our options. Guest speakers talked about their own experiences and careers and what their tasks are. On the second day, we worked in a team on a case study which we presented at the end. At all times we knew how long each activity would last and what would follow.
The atmosphere was very relaxed. Although we walked in a formal environment, the insight programme was as informal as possible under the given circumstances. I feel like that conveys a realistic image of the culture within the company and the support system available. Everyone seemed to be on the same level and we were treated politely and with respect. Furthermore, the speakers made it a lot of fun.
I got introduced to different branches and areas and job profiles. There is probably not a typical day but I got many examples of what a day could look like, what my tasks would be and how the organisation structure works. The opportunity to ask employees was very helpful for that.
As mentioned above the atmosphere was very friendly and not too strict. I gained a great understanding of the company culture by the way I was treated, very polite and with respect. The employees I met encouraged me and were supportive rather than criticising. This is an environment I would like to work in.
Everything Else
The company provided accommodation for me and reimbursed all my travel expenses since I live quite far from the office. Furthermore, they provided us with breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks so that I could keep my personal expenditures down. The process of receiving reimburses is quite easy as well and I had no difficulties.
We had a networking lunch where we could meet current interns and first years at EY and who were willing to share their experiences and answer all our questions about the application process, exams and the day to day work. We also had a networking dinner with employees who worked for EY longer than the first years and therefore had more experience.
I have heard about different networks available for employees and one of the guest speakers was very involved in the women network and told us a little bit about their activities but in general, the programme focused more on other aspect of the business. For those interested in hearing more, there was the chance to ask the speaker more questions at the networking events.
I would definitely recommend this insight programme to a friend since it helped me to decide whether I could imagine to work for this company. I met like-minded people and learned about the culture and opportunities. Before the insight days, I was not too sure about what the people in these jobs actually do but afterwards I can distinguish and know what suits me best.
