    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Although the main project i was working on was interesting, when i wasn't able to make progress on that due to reliance on other people I was left with not all that much to do, which is very frustrating, especially if you are wanting to do your best to get a job at the end of it! I gave feedback at the end of my placement and deffinatly think they took this on board- they were really open to feedback to improove for future interns.

    2/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Everyone did make time to see you and help out where they could or suggest other people who may be more suitable to help you out.

    4/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • My Manager was very busy and we did not meet that often. However I was assigned a project supervisor who was more involved directly with me. The people I sat with were very willing to help but i did often feel that I was unsure what to do and who I should talk to about it as the people who were most supportive did not actually have an official role in my development

    2/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • Hard to say, very dependent on other people, some days were really good and had lots to do to keep you busy but at times it got very slow. If you ask for more to do people are happy to give you odd jobs.

    3/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I think this is what you make of it- the project i worked on was important and could make a significant difference. on the other hand i did not really have anybody i was responsible for to help out.

    4/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Deffinatley learnt alot about dealing and managing relationships between different people within the office.- It is often difficult to get the support of someone who has had the job for a while and you pop up and try to make a change. Learnt a lot about the DMAIC business improvement structure as i had not come across that before.

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • Everybody is friendly and always someone to talk to but everyone is also busy so best to keep it vaguely work related at first!

    3/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • The process leading up to placement and all the rolls-royce wide organisation is very well set up, they take a massive intern intake so they are very good at managing it. From a departmental point of view, where i was placed it took a bit longer to get me set up with my objectives than other areas within the company but generally speaking it was pretty good.

    4/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • Everybody was put on a basic gas turbine course to understand the basics of the product. There is also online training available if you need something specific for the role you need to complete

    4/5

  • 10. What were the perks on your work placement?
  • Subsidised Canteen

    Subsidised/Company Gym

    3/5

  • 11. How appealing are future employment prospects within the organisation?
  • The opportunity after an internship are great so long as you perform well throughout your placement. The graduate scheme is a really incredible opportunity and is great for your personal development if you are accepted back onto it

    4/5

    The Culture

  • 12. Was there a good social scene amongst any fellow placement students/colleagues?
  • I lived locally so i did not live with other interns. There is still opportunity to get to know all the other interns if you take the opportunity to do so, as most people are living together in halls I think it is a bit like being at uni except you can't nap through lectures the next day and you have to start a LOT earlier.

    4/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • Pretty good- I live locally and so food and drinks prices are have always been pretty good. I think the accomodation the company recommends is a pretty reasonable price- I lived at home so not sure.

    4/5

  • 14. What was the Nightlife like in the area you worked?
  • Quite good fun in a big group of tipsy friends but pretty cheesy if not!

    3/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
  • Yep there are sports clubs within the company- i know a lot of the boys got involoved in football and rugby teams. There are gym facilities for everyone if you subscribe and there are squash courts etc. available to hire out. Most of the opportunities came from withing the group of interns and were not organised necessarily by the company.

    4/5
