About You
I really enjoyed Rothschild's GFA Spring Insight Programme 2016. The programme was a mixture of company presentations, volunteering work and networking sessions. I would say that the highlight of this insight programme would be the volunteering work. It definitely made the programme much more interesting and allowed the interns to bond through a meaningful activity.
Rothschild invested a lot of time and effort in planning this programme. Throughout the programme, we were accompanied by at least 1 HR member and were given the opportunity to meet analysts and directors through networking and work shadowing sessions. They even hired external trainers to coach us on our presentation skills (which was really helpful) and taught us how to read the FT effectively.
During the insight, I was able to receive all the guidance and support I required. The HR personnel were more than willing to answer my queries and the analysts who I shadowed offered much advice for my M&A presentation. She even responded to my email with regards to the M&A presentation during the insight.
I wouldn't go to the extent to say that I have developed skills that will assist me in my degree studies. However, the presentation and networking skills that I have learned are transferable skills that will definitely aid me in future. Furthermore, the financial knowledge that I have gained have improved my understanding of the financial world.
The Company
The insight was well structured and executed. The programme was filled with activities from 9 am - 5 pm every day and we were given time to work on our presentation after 5pm.
The general atmosphere was very welcoming and comfortable. I would say that the culture of sharing and teaching was prominent during this insight.
As mentioned previously, Rothschild invested a lot of time and effort in making this programme worthwhile. We were given lessons on M&A deals, presentation skills, interview skills and had the opportunity to work shadow and network with analysts and directors.
To a very large extent. The networking and work shadowing sessions have provided me with insight to the roles and responsibilities of a full-time role in Rothschild.
The insight day portrayed Rothschild as a company who understand the importance of teamwork and the culture of sharing where people can discuss matters openly and improve as a team. The company fosters a positive, collegiate and stimulating work environment Rothschild, where teamwork and excellence are highly valued.
The company presentations were very informative and cleared many of my questions for GFA. I had a much better understanding of the financial world and what to expect from a career in finance.
Everything Else
Accommodation and travel expenses were covered.
Plenty. Not only were there many opportunities to network with Rothschild's employees, each networking session was also very genuine and well-received.
As mentioned above, they were very genuine and well-received. The directors were very friendly and open to answer questions during the high tea session.
Not really as most of them are really passionate about their job and the working hours for Investment Banking are known to be long.
Most definitely. Highly recommended
