About You
To a great extent I enjoyed the insight week. It was very well organised and the people there were very friendly and helpful. On the first day of the programme, everyone was gathered on the 5th floor and was given a general overview of what BlackRock does. From the second day onwards, we were assigned into the division that we originally applied to.
The managing director met us on the first day upon arrival. People will never reject you if you want to invite them for a coffee and ask them questions.
Everyone was assigned a buddy who has already worked in the team. You can go to consult your buddy if you encounter any difficulty. My buddy is particularly helpful and he taught me a lot of skills, including how to do presentations, how to do fundamental research and we get to know each other well.
The presentation skills gained is invaluable. Though I overran my presentation, the PM and HR was very helpful in pointing out my mistakes and taught me on how to present more effectively by using eye contacts, etc.
The Company
Very well structured and organised.
The general atmosphere was friendly though sometimes people might be looking quite serious during meetings.
We have workshops on how to do fundamental analysis on stocks and how each division in BlackRock operates, in general, a great experience to get to understand how the fund management industry works.
Great extent. We worked in the team and followed the analysts and PM to attend all the company meetings and team meetings. I met with the CFO of the China Merchant Bank during one of the company meetings! You will be able to observe how what the role is about.
Very valuable.
Everything Else
Quite a lot of networking sessions. You can invite anyone for a coffee if you like.
Definitely!
