The Role
I was exposed to tasks that helped improve my technical skills such as scripting, debugging, documentation. I went from a non-linux user to an average linux user able to perform basic and administrative tasks.
I felt valued by my colleagues to a large extent because I was given responsibility that helped Senior consultants provide better services to clients and it was an all inclusive team.
My first 3 weeks was training to provide a better understanding of the products, services and how things work. This training and test runs actually helped me ease into my job role better. I was always busy working on a project and i enjoyed this very much.
Everyday was a challenging one and it always entailed deadlines that had to be met to keep clients satisfied. It was always a 9-5:30 pm task day and sometimes it got stretched beyond that.
I was given the responsibility of working alongside a senior consultant - integration engineer and had to take over his task when he was on vacation too.
The skills i have developed so far will not only help me in my final year project, it will help me in my search for Graduate roles and give me a better insight in my final year modules as I will be able to see the practical side of things
The Company
It was a fun and intellectually challenging atmosphere
It was well organized with each placement student having a Task Manger and a Personal Development Manager for support whenever it is needed
We were provide with online database with courses to help improve our skills and were required to complete at 40 hours of learning during the placement year as part of our personal training and development. Also, we had face to face skills development workshops which gave us insight to potential skills employers are looking for and what to do to improve those skills.
