About You
Very enjoyable. All the staff, from graduates to senior management were friendly and approachable. The bank feels very welcoming.
The staff explained all the could about their respective divisions, and were always open to answering all my questions.
We had guidance every step of the way, from what divisions we were shadowing next, to exactly how the assessments are structured.
I had great insight into the different divisions in RBS and whether I can see myself in the company. A very good opportunity to see if you are really set on what you came in for, or perhaps your interests lie somewhere else.
The Company
No complaints. I enjoyed the experience. Even the food was lovely.
Very friendly. Honestly I cannot compare to other banks as I have not attended an insight week anywhere else but RBS is definitely somewhere I can find myself *happily* working.
As it is an insight week, I understand that the scope for training and development is limited. However we were given talks about how to do well in the assessment centres and I enjoyed the team building activities as well.
In terms of the actual work, we were allowed to shadow current staff in their day-to-day tasks. They also explained to us what is expected of us once we start working in the company. In terms of support, graduates and other staff came and spoke to us about the activities and network that exists in the company. All in all I feel that the insight week provided concise information about RBS.
It helped a tremendous amount. Interacting with current staff was pleasant, and everybody seemed very open to any questions and comments I had.
Very valuable. In the shadowing sessions, I had the opportunity to ask realistically about what qualifications I might need to complete to be competent in my role, while in the graduate sessions, the graduates told us how easy/hard those qualifications truly are.
Everything Else
RBS reimbursed my travel to and from the campus everyday (I live in Edinburgh, I take a bus from the city centre to the Gogarburn campus), and 3 meals a day. For my colleagues (most of whom are from outside Edinburgh), RBS paid for their flights/train tickets to a certain amount.
Tons. It is up to you to take it. For lunch/tea time, there are employees walking around and you could just go up and speak to them. After all the sessions, the employees stick around so you can talk to them.
Very laid-back and relaxed. You can ask anything and they will answer. The employees were very friendly and that made me feel comfortable to speak to them.
Yes. The graduate council came and spoke to us about the type of activities they get involved in. Furthermore, other staff also came and spoke to us about the many networks (LGBT, disability, women, family etc) that employees can get involved in.
Definitely. I do not know how the RBS Insight Week compares to other banks but I definitely enjoyed it and would recommend it to anyone.
