About You
I enjoyed the insight week as it consisted of diverse activities such as presentations, work shadowing and skills building. The programme also gave us the opportunity to meet our peers in an informal environment as we were taken out on a social to an offsite location. 4 days was the right amount to get a good understanding into what it's like to work at Nomura.
I felt valued by the firm as I could actively see the amount of work and effort that was put into the Explore Nomura programme. An example of this was at the work shadowing as we were encouraged to ask as many questions as possible and it felt as though the business representatives really were giving us their full attention.
I received a fair amount of guidance and support from the HR team at Nomura as they were often available for us to ask questions during the breaks if we needed something. I also appreciated the mock interview's session on the second day as we were able to experience a summer internship interview and receive feedback on it.
The skills and information I received didn't help with my degree studies as I study Economics which has a lot of theory, but what it did help me with was applying my degree to finance. For example I got an insight into how useful it is to understand macroeconomics and the key economic themes driving the markets.
The Company
It was very well structured in my opinion, as they changed the Explore programme from 3 days to 4 days. The reason for this was to incorporate an extra work shadowing session and more time available to work on our group projects which was a key focus for the spring interns.
It was generally a pleasant atmosphere throughout the week. Many of the spring interns were approachable and the business representatives we encountered had taken time out of their day to speak to us which was greatly appreciated. I think the networking lunches highlighted the pleasant atmosphere as we were able to network in a slightly relaxed atmosphere.

The insight gave me a good understanding into the culture and the daily roles of representatives at Nomura. This was especially highlighted throughout the networking and work shadowing sessions as we were able to ask questions about the day to day tasks of working in that role.
The insight gave me a good understanding into the culture at Nomura due to the wide variety of activities that we took part in. However given that the programme was only 4 days, I believe that I would have received a more personal insight into the company culture if the programme were longer.
I personally already had an inclination towards Global Markets but it was very valuable to get an insight into other areas of the bank such as Investment Banking and Corporate infrastructure. Furthermore the programme didn't sway me in another direction but rather strengthened by desire to work in the Markets division.

There were many opportunities to network with employees of the firm throughout the week especially at the dedicated networking sessions. The work shadowing also provided us with the opportunity to network with individuals across the floor however we weren't given the freedom to set up meetings with specific people we would've liked to follow up with.
The social events were very good as we were taken out by Nomura to an offsite bar to meet the rest of the intern class. Another social which was very valuable were the pre spring internship networking drinks, as we were able to meet some of the interns that would be joining our class a couple of weeks before the internship had started.

Yes I would - it was very informative and enjoyable.
