The Role
Possibly the best thing I have ever done! Every day has been different and a new challenge, not once have I ever woken up dreading going to work! I have developed and leant so many new skills, as well as developing my commercial awareness on a massive scale. I have worked with some of the best people in the industry, and worked with some of the best businesses in the market.
Extremely valued, not once have I been treated 'like an intern'. I feel part of the team and like I am contributing towards a bigger picture. I have made some really strong friendships which I hope to continue once back at university.
The training and support provided is fantastic. There is lots of on-the-job training with your direct manager, and also other members of the team, as well as going to Birmingham or London for an intense week of classroom training! If I ever had any problems I would have felt confident to go to any of the management team
Extremely busy! Never clock watching and the day would always fly by.. looking at the clock at 5pm and realising you still have lots of things to do!!
As much responsibility as anyone else would have in the business. All interns are on the same programme as any other new starter at Hays (permanent staff/graduate scheme), you receive the same amount of training, given the same tasks, etc. Everyone is responsible for running their own business.
Massively. Everything I will study in my final year at university I will be able to relate back to Hays, and have real life examples to use for my work. The commercial and business awareness I will take away from this placement will be skills/knowledge for life - and that will not be the only thing I take away from this experience.
The Company
Competitive.. it's a sales role so we are competitive in the market, as well as with each other in the office. There is always a real buzz in the office, with everyone on the phone, it is always very loud. We often have 'blitz days' where everyone will hub together with prizes to be won, as well as have a celebration presentation every 4 weeks to celebrate success.
Seamless - from the start of the interview process to the offer stage there was constant contact, and between offer to start date I was put in touch with my new manager and invited to social events. On my start date everything was ready for me, and there is a strict training programme for every new started, which was also fantastically organised.
Everything - on-the-job training with my line manager and team members, online training, as well as going to Birmingham and London for several days at a time for classroom training (travel, hotel, and food costs covered). There are also additional training sessions/refreshers that run all year. As an intern in the business you receive the exact same training and development as every other new starter.

I have really been sold in to Hays and would definitely consider coming back once graduating. They are a great FTSE 250 company to be part of, offering great incentives and good salary packages/bonus schemes. As well as offering fantastic development and progression programmes.
The Culture
There are 2 other placement students at Hays, I wouldn't say we done anything social just the three of us (although we could have if we wanted to), but there are always social events going on outside of work with majority of our office which I often participated in.
I live at home with parents, so didn't really have a 'cost of living'. But the placement is based in Central Bristol - which can be quite pricey.
Bristol - it's amazing
Always social events going on, from going to the local pub or to organised nights out. There are Christmas and Summer parties to attend, as well as charity events such as charity runs, and cake sales. And the odd game of rounders in the sun
