About You
The vacation scheme I was on was a fantastic insight into the world of commercial law and A&O specifically. The vacation scheme is run excellently. It is co-ordinated by the Grad Rec team superbly and we were exposed to and worked with partners, associates and trainees throughout our time.
The work my supervisor allocated me was real and meaningful as it contributed towards his work. I contributed to work on major deals that A&O is working on.
My trainer and trainee buddy were both very helpful in outlining what I needed to do and gave very good (extensive) feedback on my work.
The skills I learnt helped me develop a legal mind which has been very useful for my Law studies at university.
The Company
The course was run exceptionally by the Grad Rec team. Our tasks and assessments were varied and the scheme as a whole was very diverse. No two days were the same, but it was clear that the team wanted us to experience lots of different parts of A&O and offer a broad insight.
Everyone (from partners to trainees and Grad Rec) was very open, helpful and talkative. This put the vac schemers at ease.
My trainer helped me to improve skills that commercial lawyers require.
As much as a vacation scheme can, I feel like I really gained a good insight into what life is like at a commercial law firm.
A&O is a sociable and open place. Of course there is very serious work going on, but the people are genuine and very kind. I was also fortunate to talk to a partner based in Hong Kong, which gave me some insight into how internationally oriented A&O is.
This scheme convinced me that commercial law is the right career path for me.
Everything Else
We had socials with our trainee buddies and the Grad Rec team. We also had dinner with partners, so the scheme was brilliant for introducing us to lots of different people.
Varied and every one was brilliant! It was clear how much thought and effort had gone into making sure the vac schemers had a good time!
Yes, Grad Rec encouraged us to talk to people who run sports clubs and the like.
Definitely.
