About You
I had a fantastic time and was welcomed by all of the staff. I learnt an awful lot, as the team did not just keep me to one department, but ensured I got to speak with other departments too.
I was given lots of real work to do, meaning that I felt truly valued during my time there. I didn't feel like they were having to search to find things for me to do, they were simply hqnding me work as they would hand work to any other colleague.
I was given lots og guidance from Grad Recruitment and my mentor, and all of the other staff were approachable. One nice thing was that they did leave me to get on with my own work and not baby me too much. At times, I felt that my mentor was too busy to ask for support but this was rare.
I didn't learn much in terms of my future career, but I learnt about how to work in an office and specifics to my department. It has encouraged me to follow up the area I studied in with my degree choices next year.
The Company
The structure was excellent. There was a basic timetable given at the start, with it building up to a final presentation on the final day and also other assessed tasks interspersed throughout the week. Nonethless, it provided enough flexibilty to do other tasks as they arose.
Everyone was really nice to work with, and I particularly enjoyed going out to lunch with the trainees. I felt welcomed and if I looked confused, someone also checked I was ok. The atmosphere in the lunch room was also relaxed and chatty. I felt well integrated.
They ensured that I was given knowledge and tasks from lots of different areas of practice by giving me talks with other team members. I also felt that the programme was really structured to improve me in many areas, from problem solving and communication to presentation skills.
With my time limited, I was encouraged to go home at 5.30 when we clocked off, but I think this may have given me a false sense of what it would be like. Nonetheless, everything else seemed genuine giving me a good impression of the work life there.
I was given a lot of information on the firm's core values and really saw them put into practice throughout my time at the firm. It was really client focused and focused on excellent, tailored advice.
Much better than expected with the varied tasks and confirmed my desire to work in a commercial firm.
Everything Else
I recieved what I believed was a fair sum and this made me feel valued and not exploited by the firm!
I was taken out for lunch one day with trainees, and the open plan office meant lots of people always popped over to say hello. The bright lunch area was always full for informal chats and then I had more structured meetings to know more seniot partners.
The only event was the lunch out, but I got the impression that there were lots of other events going on in the coming weeks.
Everything from golf, croquet, the health club, the opportunities to integrate and get involved seemed endless. Everyone seems willing to give anything a go as well, which makes the firm more fun.
I had an incredible time. I felt truly valued, and learnt an awful lot. The only let down was that the placement was so short, but I still think I managed a great insight into the firm, encouraging me to pursue a career with this firm. Anyone taking a placement there would not regret it!
