The Role
Thoroughly enjoyed my internship at IBM. Met some great interns and colleagues. Great foundation community and lovely environment to work in.
Extremely valued. I always received credit where credit was due and encouraged throughout my entire time at IBM.
Was given support and guidance at every stage of my internship. Regular meetings with EPM (Early Professional Manager) ensuring everything was in order. In addition to monthly round table meetings providing help, education and support.
Varied. Busier the further into the quarter we progressed, being very busy at quarter close. You can always find work to do if you want it.
As my placement progressed I was given more responsibility. Also given a large amount of responsibility when dealing the clients.
The skills I've developed and learned at IBM have been invaluable. My communication and skills of analyses have improved exponentially and will assist me profusely with my degree and beyond.
The Company
Atmosphere was great, lots of interns and grads. Hot desk-ing is a feature which means no one sits at the same desk every day, allowing you to meet new people.
Brilliantly organized placement, plenty of opportunity to learn and experience different business areas. A whole community is set up to deal with interns (Foundation) which is incredibly well organized.
Like most placements, it is what you make of it. If you're willing to put yourself out there and demonstrate you have an appetite for learning, you firm will invest in you. I took every opportunity IBM offered me.
Working from home
The graduate scheme offers a whole host of roles, with continuous training and learning opportunities embedded throughout the 2 year scheme. IBM would be a great place to secure a graduate job.
The Culture
One of the best aspects of working at IBM was the social scene. Over 100 interns in my office, making it a very nice place to work. Also easy to secure a house with other interns working at IBM.
I was based in London (Southbank) so everything was expensive. However across the river (10 mins walk) was a cheap bar that was very popular.
Very good, plenty of bars nearby and only a 5 min tube from central London.
Yes, there were opportunities to take part in uni/college careers fairs, mentor students from school/uni and work at Wimbledon.
