    The Role

  • 1. To what extent did you enjoy your work placement or internship?
  • Very much enjoyed the year. Had the opportunity to get involved with a vast number of different projects and programmes and also met some great people along the way.

    5/5

  • 2. To what extent did you feel valued by your colleagues?
  • Was treated like every other regular employee. I was given responsibility to manage programmes, attend external events and my opinion was valued by colleagues.

    5/5

  • 3. To what extent were you given support and guidance by management/your supervisor(s)?
  • I was lucky in that I saw my task manager on an almost daily basis meaning I could easily ask them any questions that I had. They were also very helpful whilst I was settling in and gave me plenty of support / guidance. At IBM, you are also assigned an Early Professionals Manager who's job it is to support you throughout your year and help you develop professionally. I felt very supported by both of my managers and I never had any worries about approaching them for help.

    5/5

  • 4. How busy were you on a daily basis?
  • The role has busy periods and quieter periods, however there was usually always something that I could be getting on with.

    4/5

  • 5. How much responsibility were you given during your placement?
  • I was given lots of responsibility whilst on placement, including managing aspects of some large programmes. As the team I worked in was very small, lots of responsibility was given to me.

    5/5

  • 6. To what extent did/will the skills you developed, and training you received, assist you in your degree studies and beyond?
  • Many of the soft skills that I have developed whilst on placement will definitely come in handy back at University and certainly in a Graduate role. I also feel that I have developed specific knowledge on the area of Corporate Citizenship and am now planning to base my dissertation report around this area.

    5/5

    The Company

  • 7. What was the general atmosphere in your office?
  • In the area of the office that I sat, there was usually a nice buzz about the place. On Fridays the office is completely dead as the majority of employees work from home on that day. There was also lots of other Interns which was nice.

    4/5

  • 8. How well organised was the overall work placement or internship set up?
  • IBM's intern programme is set up extremely well. There is a 2 day induction for all interns and you are completely supported throughout the whole year.

    5/5

  • 9. In terms of personal training and development, to what extent did the company or firm invest in you?
  • The 2 day induction gives you a good overview of IBM and helps get you set up with your laptop etc. There is also a wealth of online resources that you can use to undertake personal learning/training. I was also lucky to have had a handover period with my predecessor meaning they could show me the basics of the job and help me settle in.

    4/5

    4/5

  • YES - lots of other Interns based at my office.

    5/5

  • 13. What was the cost of living and socialising in the area you worked in?
  • London is an expensive place to live.

    3/5

    5/5

  • 15. Were there many opportunities to get involved in activities outside of work?
