The Role
I was offered a lot of challenging work which kept me busy and made the experience very interesting. The internship was quite chemistry based though (I am an engineer), so there was quite a lot to learn. However, it did become a lot easier the more I learnt about the topics.
I felt that I was doing work that was useful for the company and therefore was valued.
I was given support and guidance on everything that they could help me with. However, in some of my projects nobody knew anything about the topics so it was up to me to try to read up on the literature and figure out what was necessary.
There was always a lot to do. However, I appreciated this, it meant I was never bored.
I was given as much responsibility as a normal member of staff in that my work was important and did need to be completed to deadline.
Although I am not doing a Chemistry degree and so therefore will not use much of the technical knowledge I gained, I do feel that the experience of learning something completely new was a valuable one. I know now how I would go about doing it again and I have also learnt a lot about the working environment in a large company.
The Company
There was a lot of chatter and a lot of food. People brought in cakes or sweets often for a variety of reasons.
I was given clear objectives from the beginning and was informed roughly what I would be doing prior to arriving (via phone with my manager).
I was able to go on site tours and was given access to training material which helped in the placement.
Flexi Time
Subsidised/Company Gym
This is a really great company to work for but I think I would prefer a London based job.
The Culture
It was a lot of fun. There were around 50 interns living in student halls together.
A lot cheaper than London!
Not great but the people made it good.
There were a few society events and sports clubs.
