The Role
The Company
I worked within a close team of 8 where everyone was in the office everyday and i was really grateful of this. Because of this there was always a great atmosphere with everyone having a joke and getting along. I knew some interns that were entirely on their own and their team were based all over the country or in a different location.
It was well organised with foundation support always being available if needed. There was always foundation people to talk to if there was issues if you were not comfortable talking to your task manager or your personal manager. There was always resources available however most foundation and educational events were held in South Bank and IBM would not pay for your travel expenses therefore if your not based there you didn't go.
Flexi Time
Working from home
They are appealing to me but only in specific areas and my year here has allowed me to identify which areas appeal to me and which don't. I have applied to come back to IBM as a Graduate and I will know by September when I got back to university for my 3rd year.
The Culture
YES! The social life in Portsmouth within IBM interns was great, with about 70 interns being based there. Everyone lived together in student houses and socialised together all the time. Most people all got along and I have made some great friends that I will keep in contact with.
My specific cost of living (rent) was expensive due to the time that i needed my accommodation as I was looking for a house in May/June time when all the student houses still have students in from the last year. Houses where the students had moved out were being cleaned and readied for the next year and so were not available until September. Therefore I had very little choice and so opted for a brand new flat where we were the first tenants. Socialising and going out was fairly cheap due to it being mainly student based in Portsmouth. As well as the student heavy places there are nicer places to drink and go out also.
Good but got bored after 5/6 months of going out every single week
