The Role
The internship was a great insight into working life. Althought the environment is a pressured one, those around you really help and push you moving forward, so all in all it was a really enjoyable experience
Through my placement I have made a number of very good friends who I will be sure to keep in touch with. I have enjoyed both my time in and outside of work with them, and I am sure I will enjoy more times once leaving.
During my placement, I was given training throughout. Along with the training you are constantly learning from those around you and you are constantly set targets to help you progress you professional ability.
There are a number of busy periods through the year where you have a heavy work load, however those around you ensure that this is well managed and that you keep on track. During slower periods in the year although the work load is not as great, you still find yourself with lots to keep you busy.
During my specific placement I was given complete control over my candidates and would be their direct point of contact. Although this was the case I was not given a huge amount of responsibility regarding our client base which would have been nice. However I did enjoy the responsibility when afforded that chance.
I think the placement year has really helped with going back to University. The fact that you really have to keep on top of your work as well as manage your time I believe will be crusial moving back to University, it will help with regards to my assignments and revision time. I think it will really make me appreciate the free time I will have when I go back and I will be sure to utlise this as efficiently as possible. This year has also really taken me out of my confort zone with regards to my conversational skills and I really do think that forming and building relationships will be a lot easier when I do go back to finish my degree
The Company
The work environment has been great and that is largely down to those around you. Along with a high level of work you get a great deal of 'banter' from your team and external teams which really makes getting through the day a lot quicker and a lot more fun. I would decribe the environement as a 'work hard play hard' kind of place.
Your placement from begining to end is monitored by those more senior than you and so you are constantly given the chance to voice your opinion. It is very well organised from your training to your leaving presentation.
The company has trained me to the same standards as any graduate that would enter the business. I was always made to feel as if I was a perminant worker and not a placement student.
Company Parties/Events
I think that opportunities to speak with those who have managed me are always available if I was to want to come back to the company. They do make it very clear that the door is always open for a conversation. However I believe I have learnt a lot form this internship and I do think that the sales environment may not be for me fully, saying this it is always an option moving forward and I am definately grateful and happy with the time I have had here.
The Culture
The social scene from the company events to spur of the moment nights out have been fantastic. It really was a great way to get to know those you work with as well as external teams. I myself have really enjoyed my time with colleagues outside of work.
Working in central London has been very expensive with regards to social life, this may have been one of the most diffiucult aspects of the work life, however this was to be expected before joining the business and so it did not come as a shock.
The nightlife has been fantastic, there are a number of places to go out and you always have options which have always been fun.
There have been a lot of events to get involved in and when given the chance I have always been happy to be a part of it.
